Ad Sales module added to ‘Earn Your Press Pass'

Journalism, sales training modules available at no cost thanks to SCPA Foundation

The South Carolina Press Association Foundation is excited to launch a new online training course to help take non-sales, non-newspaper people and get them ready to sell into your publication.
This new ad sales basic course is a companion to the Earn Your Press Pass journalism training modules that have been available to SCPA members for the past two years.
The newspaper sales training course is a self-guided, fully online course designed to teach a new salesperson all about the ins and outs of newspaper advertising. Users will learn about a variety of topics, including advertising terminology, building relationships, best practices, needs analysis selling, making the sale, ethics and more.
Journalism training is also available. Topics include interviewing and reporting skills, sourcing considerations, news judgment, headline and cutline writing, AP Style, copy editing and basic photography.
Thanks to funding from the Foundation, the news and ad sales courses are available to all SCPA members at no charge. This training is especially helpful for early-career journalists, collegiate journalists, freelancers, new sales reps and employees with limited training or experience.
Members who complete the journalism and/or ad sales course will receive a Certificate of Completion.
If you have a reporter or sales rep who could benefit from this training, please sign up!

The SCPA Foundation Board met last week to discuss education, scholarships and internships, and how to better support member newspapers. The Board once again approved use of Smoak Funds to support training in the upcoming year (see calendar below). Smoak Funds are vital for the Association to continue providing a robust schedule of affordable training.
