Want to celebrate 4/20? Here are dozens of weed-themed events across Minnesota. Businesses statewide are marking April 20, the unofficial holiday celebrating all things cannabis, with loads of events, discounts and specials. Because 4/20 falls on Easter Sunday this year, most of the celebrations are taking place on Saturday. See the full list of events and discounts.(Free article!)
Minnesota cannabis regulations take effect, paving way for licensing: Administrative Law Judge Eric Lipman’s approval on April 2 of the rules that will govern the state’s legal marijuana industry was one of the final major hurdles the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) needed to clear before it can begin licensing cannabis businesses in Minnesota. The final regulations were published in the state register on Monday, the OCM announced. The rules are now in effect and the OCM can issue licenses to cannabis businesses that have satisfied all of their requirements, though that likely won’t happen immediately. Interim OCM Director Eric Taubel told the Minnesota Star Tribune last week that he estimated the best-case scenario for issuing cannabis business licenses to applicants seeking uncapped license types, that have met all of their requirements and are ready to begin operating would be roughly 30 days after rules take effect. The OCM expects to hold lotteries for capped license types in May or June.
Minneapolis Park Board committee backs ban on smoking marijuana in parks: Smoking and vaping is already banned on parkland. After the Minnesota’s legalization of adult recreational use, commissioners agreed to clarify that the prohibition extends to cannabis. Commissioners of the administration and finance committee also approved regulations for the sale of THC drinks and edibles of no more than 5 mg by licensed or permitted vendors, such as park restaurants and event organizers like Twin Cities Pride, which hosts the Pride Festival in Loring Park each year.
