As we celebrate Black History Month, we turn the spotlight on Rt. Rev. Michael Curry. The Rt. Rev. Michael Bruce Curry, the 27th presiding bishop and primate of the Episcopal Church, made history as the first African American to hold the position after his election in 2015. Prior to this role, he served as the Bishop of North Carolina from 2000 to 2015. His tenure as presiding bishop concluded on November 1, 2024, when he was succeeded by Sean Rowe. On Friday, September 6, St. B’s was honored to host a luncheon with then Bishop Curry, where he gathered with clergy from across the Diocese of Tennessee and shared stories of his ministry and his hopes for the future.

Our 456 students have been reading about Moses in Exodus. Last Sunday each person chose a part of the story that spoke to them and used a variety of materials to create drawings, paintings, sculptures, maps, and timelines. We’re thankful for our great leaders and that we enjoy each other’s company!

We are forming supper groups at St. B’s for the Winter/Spring. Supper groups are co-ed, social gatherings composed of approximately four households that will meet 3-4 times during the winter-spring months before rotating to new groups. We are offering three types of groups: adults meeting at homes, families meeting at homes, and adults gathering at restaurants. If you need babysitting in order to participate in a dinner group, please contact the church office for assistance. Please complete this form to express your interest by February 16. Groups will be formed by the end of February. For questions, contact Anne & David Walker or Kathy & Tom Patten.

| Celebrate with the St. B's choir on February 23 |
The St. B’s choir will be singing at the annual Absalom Jones Service at Christ Church Cathedral on Sunday, February 23 at 3:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to worship once again with Rev. Serena, who is now the Dean and Rector of the Cathedral.
This special service honors Absalom Jones, founder of the first Black Episcopal congregation in the United States in 1794 and the first African American ordained as a priest in the Episcopal Church. He remains a powerful figure in our faith and is commemorated on the Episcopal calendar of saints.

A Little Child Shall Lead |
Two ways to encourage our St. B's Children |
1. Sacred Communion
Last Sunday, 10 of our 2nd and 3rd graders began going through Sacred Communion — an experience intended to deepen their faith in Jesus and to broaden their imagination for the mystery of the Eucharist. The course ends with a mini-retreat and Family Eucharist celebration.
Would you be willing to pray for one of these children for the month of February and write a letter of encouragement to be opened during our retreat on 2/23? If so, please email Meredith for more details.
2. The 456 Retiree Luncheon
Are you 60 or older? The 4th, 5th, and 6th graders (456) invite you to Wallace Hall after the 11:00 service (12:00-1:30 p.m.) on Sunday, February 23 for a yummy winter meal prepared and served by the kids. We would enjoy sharing a meal and sparkling conversation with you! Please RSVP to Meredith by Wednesday, February 19 if you can join us.

Volunteer to Wrangle Weeds |
Hands-on opportunity March 1 |
Help remove invasive trees, shrubs, vines, and plants in designated areas around our campus! St. B's is partnering with The Garden Club of Nashville as part of the broader Weed Wrangle project. On Saturday, March 1, we will remove invasive, non-native plants from certain areas, which will later be replaced with native species that bring maximum benefit to our ecosystem. All the training and instructions needed will be provided that day.
This opportunity is ideal for people who love to be outside and who can bend, dig, and cut. If mobility limits you, you're welcome to come for fellowship and to cheer us on. Long-time parishioners can offer stories about what used to happen here and there on St. B's grounds—sign up for the "oral history" participant slot! Families are welcome, but since sharp tools will be on the premises, parents must be attentive to little ones.

God of wind and water, stillness and storm, your Spirit sweeps over the surface of the sea. Give us faith to seek you in times of trouble. Reach out your hand to us when we are sinking so that we may believe and worship you; through Jesus Christ, Sovereign and Savior. |
