Creativity and Imagniation

 by Charlie Smith
 I’m one of those troglodytes who still has cable television. Honestly, I don’t know why we pay for it – the only things I watch are sports and local news. One night during the long Christmas-New Year’s break, I was surfing the channels. On a movie channel, to my amazement, The Wizard of Oz was being shown. Seriously? Is that considered a Christmas movie now?

Growing up in Kansas City in the 1960s, The Wizard of Oz was a sure sign of spring and tornado season, shown annually in April. Watching it was a really big deal. A Buick car dealer who lived across the street from us gathered the neighborhood kids together for a party to watch the movie. What made it extra special was that we watched it on a COLOR TV. Remember that scene, after the house was lifted up from Kansas and plopped down into Oz, when Dorothy opens the front door – and everything suddenly changes from black and white to color? “Ahhhhhhh!”

Teacher of the Month

Sherry Fair will introduce Tobi Gordon, Moore Public Schools, as Teacher of the Month.

Fun Car Show

Do you have a fun car or truck, one that causes people to give you a thumbs up when they see it?  The Member Engagement Committee thinks this would be a great "extra". The plan is to set up one Tuesday in June, plus a rain date, when we'll all drive ours to Rotary.  We'll put them on the front row at St. Luke's, arriving a little early and staying a little late, to give our fellow Rotarians a chance to look them over.  Please email or text  626-660-5446  Paul Moore with what you have, if you're willing to come play!

=>Accounting Email Change

On July 1, 2024 the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City updated our accounting software to QuickBooks Online.  With this change, the email address that sends your statements has been updated to:  quickbooks@notification.intuit.com

Please add the above email address to your safe senders list and check your spam/junk folders for communications from the Rotary office.   Quarterly statements were emailed and we appreciate your assistance to ensure timely payment.

Rotary District Grant

Each year, our club has the opportunity to apply for a district grant with District 5750 in which our club contributes 1/3 the cost of a project and the district provides the other 2/3rds of funding. This past May, our domestic service committee submitted a $6,514 grant to purchase a Vibe board for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma.  The vibe board has multifunctional capabilities that will support their educational endeavors, foster community, and advocacy efforts, and streamline administrative processes.
Currently DSACO serves almost 1,000 families in the central Oklahoma area and this device will help the reach more of those families and will also give them the opportunity to provide more services to educators and medical professionals by offering webinars and sessions. Thank you to Domestic Service Chair Jake Krattiger and the committee for completing this great project on behalf of our club and District 5750.
