Utility Work on Ragsdale Road. Earlier this week, Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) began clearing trees and relocating utility poles along Ragsdale Road, between Split Log and Sunset roads, as part of an upcoming Ragsdale Road improvement project.
The work will take several days, and MTE plans to schedule any potential lane closures during non-peak hours to prevent issues with school traffic. MTE also doesn’t anticipate any electrical outages because of this work, but will contact residents if one is needed.
When traveling down this segment of Ragsdale Road for the next few weeks, please be cautious and mindful of these work crews. Thank you for your patience while we continue to enhance city roads.

Flights Over Brentwood. Residents occasionally express concern about the commercial flights over the city. City officials reached out to the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) for additional information.
The MNAA reports that it does not control the aircraft in the sky, nor does it decide which runways are assigned to landing and departing airplanes. Those tasks are the exclusive responsibility of the FAA. The FAA maintains an Aviation Noise Ombudsman who serves as a liaison with the public on issues regarding aircraft noise. The Ombudsman can be contacted by email (9-aso-noise@faa.gov) or by phone (202-267-8507).

Teri Daly Hits Her Stride on Hike to Machu Picchu |
|
|
On a quiet afternoon in April 2020, Teri Daly developed an escape plan. Earlier that week, Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee issued Executive Order No. 23, requiring residents to stay inside their homes. Parking lots emptied. Traffic disappeared from the interstate. The country, in the first throes of the COVID-19 pandemic, was shutting down.
Teri, Administrative Services Coordinator for the City of Brentwood, couldn’t go to her job at City Hall – the building was closed – so she stayed at home, staring at the empty streets beyond her window. Her three grown sons had moved out years ago, and inside the quiet house, her bored sighs made the minutes pass as if in slow motion.
“During that two-week period where they told everybody to not leave your house, I realized on day four that I was not an introvert,” she said. “I broke out of my house and just started walking.”
Teri put on her sneakers and headed down the street. The exercise felt better than simply sitting at home, so she went out again the next morning, and the morning after that. Each day, she pushed herself a little farther, leaving her neighborhood for three-, four-, and five-mile hikes at Crockett Park and Radnor Lake. As the weeks passed, a few friends joined her, and during those sunny afternoons, they laughed and encouraged each other to keep going.
With each new season, the world slowly returned to normal, and after the dark, gloomy days of the COVID lockdown, Teri and several of her friends decided it was time to embrace life through a new physical challenge. Instead of walking the trails at the local parks, why not hike 8,000 feet into the mountains of Peru to see firsthand the legendary city of Machu Picchu?
