| RVA Men Teach Conference – Enormous gratitude to Rodney Robinson and everyone who helped plan the RVA Men Teach Conference – it was absolutely phenomenal! One of the highlights was the naming of the first annual RVA Men Teach Teacher of the Year – Mr. Philip Canady from Fairfield Court ES. Congratulations, Mr. Canady!
| |
| Mary Munford ES Choir – Last night at the School Board meeting, the Mary Munford ES choir, under the direction of Ms. Diane Bacon, brought down the house. Their performance of “Circle of Life” and “Heal the World” was simply beautiful!
| |
| Obama Choir at the Diamond – More student singers! The Celebration Choir of Barack Obama ES will sing the National Anthem at the Flying Squirrels game on Thursday, April 20. Everyone is invited to come out and support the Obama Stars. A portion of each ticket sold through our special link will be donated to the school so bring your family and friends!

| Science on the James – Mrs. Perry's sixth grade science class from Albert Hill MS recently headed out on the James River for some very hands-on learning! Sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, this experience gives students the opportunity to actually do science – from conducting water quality tests to examining the environmental factors affecting fish populations. Make sure to read the RTD article about their research! (Photo Credit: Eva Russo, RTD)

- A special thanks to Leroy Hatcher in Technology Services who took the time to investigate my technology issue and worked to get it resolved within a few hours. It's so wonderful to know we have a top-notch technology team supporting school operations each day. Thank you so much for your time and attention!
- Shout-out to Principal Mrs. Green at Broad Rock Elementary School for being an incredible leader. Mrs. Green always goes above and beyond for her students and staff. Thank you for your leadership.
- This is a shout-out for Rashad Rodgers, Blackwell’s school counselor, who organized an awesome Dads & Donuts breakfast last Friday. So many dads, pops, and father figures of all kinds came to join us – even Nutzy was there! Students were beaming with pride as they sat with caregivers, and all day after. Thank you, Mr. Rodgers, for celebrating the father figures in our community.
- Shout out to Robin Cullum, EXED teacher at Binford Middle School! She’s the definition of a team player who is always willing to lend a helping hand and support another teacher or student. Don’t be surprised if she makes you laugh in the process! Thanks for all that you do!
- Shout out to Travis Amos at Binford Middle School for doing all the sporty things and answering all the sporty questions all the time!
- Shout-out to the Binford PTA for providing The Binford Unified Club with pizza for their poster making Big Feet Meet send-off! Positive vibes, full bellies, laughter, and, most of all, belonging and inclusivity filled the room. Also, special thanks to Mrs. King and Mrs. Mackey for providing decorations.
- Shout-out to Ms. Vera, 6th grade science teacher at Binford Middle School. Thank you for your collaboration and creativity! We are so happy to have you as a member of our team.
- Shout-out to Albert Hill MS’s Ms. Shenk (and all the other Hill teachers - she just happens to be the teacher my child had at the time) for handling the lock and teach situation yesterday in a way that my child felt safe and continued to learn. While I wish these situations didn’t occur, I am so grateful for a school that not only takes these situations seriously, but that I also trust completely with his safety and well-being.
- Congratulations to several students from the George Wythe Forensics Team. In a competition this weekend, Taleah Childress placed 1st, Catheirne Cobbs placed 2nd, and Miyah Miller placed 3rd.
- Shout-out to our school volunteers from First Presbyterian Church for their dedication to the success of our students at Henry L. Marsh III Elementary School. Thank you for the 1,400 new books donated and shelved in the school library. We want you to know that your time and effort does not go unnoticed and we appreciate you. You have been wonderful partners and team players for many years! One Team, One Dream!
