You Can't Spell Easter Without Good Friday
|
Good Friday of 2019 was our secondborn's first birthday. As the day drew closer, I started to wonder, "How do you celebrate a first birthday that lands on Good Friday? And why is it called 'good' anyway?" After all, by Good Friday, Jesus is in the tomb, and the world is pretty dark. If we are being honest, on Good Friday, we start to wonder if maybe we got this whole God thing wrong after all.
But what if Good Friday is the only way we could make it to Easter? What if?
I wrote a piece about Good Friday that year and still wonder much of the same now that I did then.
It's here if you'd like to read more. Regardless, know this:
Whether you feel like you are living in a Good Friday sort of season or an Easter Sunday sort of season, there is life. There is life. There is life. And we won't stop holding onto it for each other.
And so here's to life, to joy, to knowing we are not alone, and to resisting the urge to skip Good Friday because, if we can bear it (especially when we think maybe we cannot), Easter never seemed so true.
Join us on April 5 for one of three Easter services (7:30 am, 9:30 am, or 11:30 am). Because Good Friday comes. But Easter is right behind it.
See you at church and around town,
Ashley

NaCoMe
April 18-19, 2026
It's not too late to register for NaCoMe. This is our annual, all-church retreat, where we make time and space to take a breath together.
There will be play, campfires, a talent show, worship on Sunday morning, rocking on front porches, and lots of time to laugh and be together. You are welcome for the whole event or part of the event.
Everyone stays in cabins, and each family has their own room and bathroom. It is a highlight of the year, and there is always room for more.

Have you seen this?! WPC's Hands on Mission is offering mini-grants for individuals, families, or groups in our church to use for creative service projects.
What's one way you would pour into your community if money weren't a hindrance? What do your kids notice in the world and what ideas do they have for serving it (ask them!)? Come up with a small project, invite another friend/family member to join, and do it!
This is such a fun and unique opportunity. We hope you'll take advantage of it.
(Let us know if/when you do!)
