Dear Arts & Sciences Faculty, Welcome back! I hope your break was a chance to rest and recharge. This edition of Experimomentum showcases a change in how we calculate grant-funded course buyouts, opportunities for students, and our typical round-up of grant and fellowship opportunities. For those needing conference or research travel support, we still have funds available in our Scholars Travel Fund and our International Travel Fund. As always, please contact me if you have ideas for how the College can better support your research. ~ Stuart Marcovitch, Associate Dean for Research (Interim)

Calculating grant-funded course buyouts is simpler now.
|
| Grant-funded course buyouts now valued at 10% of annual salary
CAS and other units are changing how we calculate the value of a grant-funded course buyout in a grant proposal budget. In the past, a course buyout was valued at 12.5% (1/8) of a faculty member's annual salary, plus fringe. Moving forward, these buyouts will be valued at 10% of the annual salary, plus fringe. Faculty should still work with CAS Pre-Award staff to prepare a grant budget that includes course buyouts, and the CAS Course Buyout Form is still required at the proposal stage. The CAS policy document covering course buyouts has been updated to reflect this change.

| Faculty can log into NSF's Research.gov with UNCG Single-sign-on!
| |
The National Science Foundation's proposal submission platform is Research.gov. While grant administrators can create applications in other systems, principal investigators must create their own NSF proposals in Research.gov. Research.gov recently transitioned to multi-factor-authentication at log-in. But UNCG researchers need not fear log-in or password hassles, because we can now use our UNCG credentials to log into Research.gov! Yay! Learn more >>
