Hourglass Publishes Video on Unlocking Lancaster County's Outdoor Recreation Potential

Hourglass, a nonprofit organization in Lancaster County, recently released a video called “Unlocking Lancaster County’s Outdoor Recreation Potential.”
The seven-minute video highlights some of the major outdoor recreation projects in Lancaster, such as the Northwest River Trail and the Enola Low Grade Trail, and the impacts they have had on the county.
“Learn how these projects are revitalizing river towns, boosting tourism, and improving physical, mental, and environmental health,” the video description reads.
Hourglass interviewed local leaders and business owners to find out how investments in outdoor recreation support local communities.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has supported many of the projects described in the video. Grants came from multiple funding sources, among them the Keystone Fund, Environmental Stewardship Fund, and Heritage Areas Program.

DCNR Seeks Volunteers for Trails Advisory Council

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is seeking applicants for five volunteer positions on the Pennsylvania Trails Advisory Committee.
“The Pennsylvania Trails Advisory Committee plays a critical role in setting the course to improve and expand our trail system for years to come, and we are seeking engaged, creative trail enthusiasts to help guide this work,” DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn said.
The agency is seeking interested parties to voluntarily represent each of the following user groups: Hiking, Bicycling, Water Trail Users, and two Members at Large.
Members will serve a three-year term starting Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
Letters of interest and resumes are due by Thursday, October 31, 2024 and should be submitted to RA-explorepatrails@pa.gov. More information can be found on the Trails Advisory Committee website.

Funding Opportunity: Grants to Support Youth Sport Equity

With support from Musco Lighting, Nike, Susan Crown Exchange, and ESPN, the National Recreation and Parks Association is offering three grant opportunities to advance youth sport equity.
The grants provide a mix of funding, in-kind equipment, and no-cost training to help local park and recreation agencies improve equity outcomes in their youth sport systems.
The deadline to apply is Friday, November 8. Those who want to learn more should register for the informational webinar on Tuesday, October 22.

Webinar: Assessing and Advancing Belonging

The interactive workshop provides a framework for honestly evaluating outdoor organizations’ stage of inclusion.
The focus of the webinar is how to move from talking about the value of diversity to creating an authentic sense of belonging in outdoor spaces.
