Exploring the Future of Tech & Aging
|
AGE+ recently attended the Annual Oregon Connections Telecommunications Conference, where AI futurist Steve Brown delivered a keynote that inspired leaders to consider the transformative potential of AI and emerging technologies. He highlighted remarkable advances in healthcare and other fields, showing how AI enhances precision and efficiency in routine tasks. Brown encouraged proactive engagement with Oregon-based experts to address AI-related concerns.

AGE+ is collaborating with the Technology Association of Oregon to support efforts highlighted by Steve Brown, emphasizing his message that doubling down on care and humanity is essential to balancing AI’s influence. We’re excited to integrate this learning into our ongoing digital equity work with programs that align with the Oregon Broadband Office Digital Equity Plan. These initiatives ensure older adults, especially in rural areas, have the devices, skills, and in-home broadband access to thrive in a digital world, supporting our mission to bridge the digital divide and create opportunities for connection, empowerment, and engagement.

Building an Age-Positive Oregon Together
|
The inaugural cohort of the Leadership Exchange on Ageism (LEA) is underway, uniting a diverse group of leaders across Oregon to tackle the effects of ageism in communities and everyday life. This first cohort represents leaders from aging services, community colleges, healthcare, consumer justice, local and state government, the legal profession, LGBTQ+ organizations, YMCA/YWCA, statewide emergency management, philanthropy, and more.
LEA plays a vital role in AGE+’s mission to create an age-positive Oregon. It fosters understanding across sectors, generations, and in both urban and rural areas, inspiring the creation of an age-friendly state. Through these efforts, AGE+ aims to prepare Oregon for a future that values and supports aging.
Join the movement: We’re excited to welcome more leaders into the conversation in 2025! Reach out to Lori Silverman at lsilverman@ageplus.org for more.

Our chance to make a meaningful impact in addressing the demographic shift is just around the corner. In the 2025 legislative session, a bill will be introduced to convene a task force to develop the Multi-Sector Plan on Aging (MPA), centering on the bold goal focus areas. We have also been engaging with cross-sector leaders who are part of the public-private partnership, supporting the task force in building the plan while keeping community voices front and center. Shared Future Oregon, our movement to advance the MPA, remains an intentional effort to allow Oregonians the opportunity to live, thrive, and age in their communities of choice.

AGE+ Recognized for Impact
|
At the Portland Business Journal's Corporate Philanthropy Awards on October 24, AGE+ was honored to be selected by event sponsors Cambia Health Foundation and OnPoint Community Credit Union as one of three nonprofits to receive donations. Instead of providing traditional giveaways, Cambia and OnPoint pooled their budgets to benefit the community by offering $25 donation cards to attendees who chose the nonprofit they wanted to support. This initiative raised nearly $5,000 for AGE+ and allowed us to introduce our mission to new leaders across various sectors. A sincere thank you to Cambia and OnPoint for their generous, continued support!
Check us out! AGE+ is featured in the Portland Business Journal's Book of Giving!

A Tale of Two Ribbon Cuttings

AGE+ recently celebrated the grand openings of its two affordable housing developments for older adults in Talent and Madras. Residents are settling into their new homes, enjoying greater stability, security, and a sense of belonging.
These openings mark an integral step in AGE+'s mission to quickly create affordable, accessible housing to address the critical shortage of suitable options for older adults, especially in rural areas. In Talent, the development is particularly significant for wildfire survivors, many of whom spent years in temporary housing.
AGE+ is pioneering a scalable model designed to inspire other organizations to tackle the housing crisis for older adults. We’re here to guide those interested in replicating this success, helping more communities provide affordable housing that empowers older adults to stay engaged, connected, and free from housing insecurity.
AGE+ plans to break ground on a second housing project in Talent in 2025, building on lessons learned to make the process even more efficient. We are grateful for our partners, funders, and local communities who made these developments possible and look forward to continuing to create inclusive, thriving spaces for people of all ages.
