Chief Meadows Leads South Fulton to Historic Crime Reduction with Bold Innovations

Under the steadfast leadership of Chief Keith Meadows, the South Fulton Police Department (SFPD) continues to achieve remarkable progress in reducing crime across the city. 

 

In a recent exclusive with Channel 2’s Darryn Moore, Chief Meadows highlighted the department’s innovative strategies and forward-thinking approach, emphasizing a combination of cutting-edge technology and strategic enforcement.

 

Since the department’s inception, SFPD has grown from 87 officers to over 200, with aggressive recruitment efforts continuing to make strides. 


"Our goal is to not just grow in numbers but to cultivate a team of highly-trained officers who reflect the values of our community,” said Chief Meadows.

These efforts have led to substantial decreases in Part One crimes:

  • Homicides: Down 5%
  • Rape: Down 44%
  • Aggravated Assaults: Down 37%
  • Burglaries: Down 10%
  • Larceny from Vehicles: Down 35%
  • Larceny/Other: Down 20%
  • Auto Thefts: Down 36%

"While robberies saw a slight increase of 9% compared to 2023, we are addressing this challenge head-on with targeted strategies such as hotspot enforcement and intelligence-led policing. Leveraging cutting-edge tools and a proactive approach remain central to our mission of making South Fulton safer for all," said Chief Meadows.

The 'Slow Your Roll' Campaign in Action

The South Fulton Police Department’s "Slow Your Roll" campaign is well underway, addressing residents' concerns about speeding and reckless driving. Through May 19, officers will conduct:

  • Road safety checks
  • Speed enforcement operations
  • Distracted driving interventions in high-traffic areas

"This campaign is about saving lives and ensuring safety on our roadways," said Chief Meadows. "We are listening to our residents and taking action."

 

A newly released PSA highlights the department’s commitment to traffic enforcement and educating the public on road safety.

BUILDING FOR THE FUTURE

 

A Bold Vision for 2025

Looking ahead, Chief Meadows has outlined ambitious goals for the year, focusing on growth, innovation, and community engagement:

  • Expanding the Force: The department aims to hire 75 additional officers to reach a total of 275 by the end of 2025, moving closer to the recommended 350 officers.
  • New Headquarters: Design work for a state-of-the-art police headquarters is underway, with plans to break ground in 2025. "This facility will reflect the needs of our community and our officers," said Chief Meadows.
  • Advanced Technology: The second phase of the IBM artificial intelligence project will enhance crime prevention capabilities, ensuring continued crime reduction in the years ahead.
  • Targeted Crime Strategies: As part of the department’s commitment to reducing crime, targeted enforcement strategies will address specific challenges, including the slight rise in robberies, ensuring a safer future for all.
  • Youth Engagement: Expanding the Police Athletic League (PAL) program to reach more areas of the city, building trust and positive relationships with South Fulton’s youth.
 

FIELD OPERATION ENHANCEMENTS

 

New Command Vehicle Improves Incident Response

This year, SFPD will take possession of a state-of-the-art command vehicle, a critical addition for managing major incidents such as active shooters, natural disasters, and large-scale events. 

 

"The command vehicle gives us the ability to mobilize efficiently and effectively. It’s a game-changer for public safety," Chief Meadows said.

The South Fulton Police Department is proud to celebrate Captains Clarence Flournory and Jimmy Wyche for earning their Master’s of Public Safety Administration through the Law Enforcement Command College of Georgia. 

 

This prestigious accomplishment underscores their dedication to professional growth and leadership in public safety.
