GS222 Breathe Easy: Explore the Environmental Health and Science of Indoor Air

Two photos show CC students and alums assembling Corsi-Rosenthal air filter boxes. In the left image, four people stand around a table indoors, fitting together white air filters and fans with tape. In the right image, three people work outdoors on a completed filter box, smiling as they test the fan unit. Trees with autumn leaves and campus buildings appear in the background.

Spend Half-Block 2026 diving into the air you breathe! GS222 Breathe Easy: The Environmental Health and Science of Indoor Air, co-taught by Andrea Bruder and CC alum Jim Rosenthal ’70, explores how indoor air quality (IAQ) affects your health, cognition, and, in turn, is impacted by climate change. The average person spends 90% of their time indoors and inhales more than 2,000 gallons of air each day—along with pollutants, smoke, viruses, and more.

Through hands-on projects, guest speakers, and field trips, you’ll learn how to measure and improve air quality in campus spaces and beyond. You will learn how to build your own air cleaner (and breathe easier if you have allergies) and visit an Indoor Air Quality research lab at CU Boulder. You may even choose to present your project at an undergraduate research conference in the spring (optional)! No prerequisites and open to all students. Sign up today!

The Colorado College men's basketball team took on the University of Northern Colorado in an exhibition matchup in Greeley on Monday night. The Tigers were led by senior Asher Nofziger's 14 points but fell 91-57.

"I was really proud of our effort tonight," head coach Jeff Conarroe said. "Northern Colorado has been practicing since early summer, and we are only a couple of weeks in. I thought we were toe-to-toe until we ran out of gas. That said, we have a lot of work ahead of us. We had too many lulls, didn't play hard for 40 minutes and also didn't rebound the ball to our standards."

Southwest Studies Grad Produces Colorado River Podcast

A smiling person sits on a boat holding a small microphone covered with a windscreen, wearing sunglasses, a headset, a long-sleeve sun shirt, patterned shorts, and a cap that reads “Outdoor Odyssey.” The boat is on calm blue-green water with a large sandstone rock formation rising in the background under a bright sky streaked with wispy clouds. Another person’s legs and backpack are visible on the left side of the frame.

A recent graduate who majored in Southwest Studies and minored in Environmental Studies has put their degree to use by producing a six-part podcast, Lifeblood: Glen Canyon, Lake Powell, and the Future of the Colorado River.

As part of their Senior Capstone Project, Evelyn Baher-Murphy ’25 (they/them) spent over two months traveling around the Colorado River Basin to learn about the river and the people it impacts. They interviewed stakeholders about the past, present, and what they say is the uncertain future of the Colorado River, a resource on which 40 million people depend. As part of their field research, they spent a week on the water with Lake Powell boaters, as well as several weeks rafting through the Grand Canyon.

FAC Corner

Don't Miss Mary Poppins on the FAC Mainstage, running Nov. 20–Dec. 28.

Graphic for a “Mary Poppins” production. The background is light blue with silhouettes of London buildings, including Big Ben, under a pale cloud. The title “Mary Poppins” appears in large, whimsical dark blue lettering. A yellow hat with a white daisy sits above the word “Mary,” and a yellow umbrella forms part of the “P” in “Poppins.” The overall design is cheerful and airy, evoking the classic story’s magical tone.

The Banks family is in disarray—an overworked father, a restless mother, and children who can’t keep a nanny. Enter Mary Poppins, the magical caregiver who helps them rediscover joy and togetherness. This classic tale of a struggling family brought back together by a special nanny and a “spoonful of sugar” will bring extra cheer to your holiday season!
