What Do Group Phone Contacts for the Public Do?

Phone Contacts for the Public are members of the group who are willing to receive phone calls and offer a warm welcome to newcomers and others seeking information about their Al‑Anon group. They extend a personal invitation to newcomers to attend the next meeting, including details about how to find the group’s meeting room. Serving as a group’s Phone Contact for the Public is Step Twelve in action. Read about it on page 32 of the 2022‑2025 Al‑Anon/Alateen Service Manual [P‑24/27] v2.

We’ve Come a Long Way, Baby

The communication that unites the Al‑Anon fellowship began in 1951 with a handwritten letter to 87 family groups.
Over the years, communication has evolved from mimeographed newsletters and paper directories to attractive websites in English, Spanish, and French and sophisticated meeting search engines, in addition to trilingual toll‑free phone lines, glossy magazines, an email newsletter that reaches over 40,000 subscribers, and most recently, the Al‑Anon Family Groups Mobile App (AFG Mobile App).
Launched in August 2020, the multilingual AFG Mobile App today boasts 150,000 users and links them to in‑app meetings worldwide and multiple ways to connect with each other.
