Advocating for the deaf community and teaching ASL

Lei-Sea Sky, who is pursuing majors in both social work and political science, has been appointed as UTA’s first student mentor who is deaf. She said her goal is to help ensure that other students who are deaf have equal access to UTA’s boundless opportunities. Lisalee D. Egbert, assistant professor of modern languages who is also deaf, helped create the first American Sign Language (ASL) Club on campus last year and is now spearheading a new minor in ASL and deaf studies. This compilation highlights 35 programs that have been recognized through Examples of Excelencia, the nation’s premier authority on efforts to accelerate Latino student success in higher education. Justyn Jaworski, assistant professor of bioengineering, was named a Texas Academy of Medicine, Engineering, Science, and Technology (TAMEST) protégé. Dr. Jaworski’s designation as an emerging researcher allowed him to attend this year's TAMEST conference, which brings together the brightest minds in medicine, engineering, science, and technology to foster collaboration and advance research, innovation, and business in Texas.

| Share your priorities for climate action measures

The Office of Administration and Economic Development is advancing the Campus Master Plan and the Energy Transition and Resilience Plan. Provide feedback on the goals outlined in both plans at an open house event tomorrow, Tuesday, April 30, 11 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in the Red River and Concho rooms in the University Center. Take the Energy Transition and Resilience Plan Survey to communicate your priorities as they relate to sustainability, resilience, and climate action measures.

| Disability Employee Network
|
Attend a meet and greet for the Disability Employee (DE) Network, a UTA employee resource group, on Wednesday, May 8, 12 -1 p.m. in Room 132 of the the Social Work Building. The mission of DE is to promote visibility and build community for people with disabilities and their allies. Food will be provided.

UT System’s Spring Forward Challenge is ending soon. You have until Wednesday, May 8, to load your activity to the team page. Glass Art Sale this weekend

The Spring Glass Art Sale and Fundraiser, a free event with live glass-blowing demonstrations, will be open to the general public on Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. or until sold out. The preview day on Friday, May 3, will allow faculty, staff, and students to shop the day before the sale opens to the public.

Donate digital eclipse materials

UTA Libraries Special Collections is seeking community donations of digital materials documenting the solar eclipse that occurred on April 8. Community members are invited to make donations through the Total Solar Eclipse Collection donation form. Items of interest include digital photographs, videos, artwork, and more relating to the eclipse, celebrations, and gatherings in North Texas.

Recycle your eclipse glasses
|
You can turn in undamaged eclipse glasses for recycling or reuse at the information desks at the University Center and The Commons. The University will send the glasses to nonprofit groups for future distribution and use.

The Office of Talent, Culture, and Engagement has created the Employee Emergency Fund (EEF) to provide short-term assistance for employees experiencing significant temporary financial hardship. This fund will help eligible employees cover basic needs. You can donate to EEF through automatic payroll deduction or online through the EEF giving website.

Senior or first-year students who complete the 15-minute National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) are eligible to enter a drawing for one of 20 Amazon gift cards worth $100 each. The survey will be available until Monday, May 13.

UTA Wireless Network security enforcement
|
The Office of Information Technology is enabling network security enforcement on all UTA-owned and -managed Windows and Mac devices connected to UTA wireless campus networks. This work is part of the Network Access Control project. Personal devices and home networks will not be affected. Enforcement will be conducted over two dates in April, as outlined in the enforcement schedule. Devices that do not meet security compliance standards will be quarantined and unable to access UTA resources. If your device is impacted, you will receive a pop-up approximately one week in advance.

This policy was updated as part of a regularly scheduled review. Updates were made to reflect current processes and to align with legal requirements.

CO-CS-PO-06 University Environmental Health and Safety Policy
This policy was updated as part of a regularly scheduled review. A related procedure, CO-CS-PR-01 Emergency Communications Procedure, was combined into this policy to reduce unnecessary overlap. The UTA Police Department will serve as the focal point for emergency communication. Department responsibilities were updated to reflect current practices.
