Graphic artist praises UTA art program
UTA alumnus David DeGrand has always been drawn to the sillier side of art. In fact, he first began finding his footing as an artist in his fifth-grade art class after drawing a comic strip as part of an assignment.
Before long, DeGrand had filled up notebooks and sketchbooks with what he calls his “weird ideas and silly art,” saying, “I just fell in love with it.”
Maverick golfer makes Texas history
A UTA women’s golf team sophomore is now part of Texas golf history. Madison Le won the 102nd Women’s Texas Amateur golf tournament at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club near Bullard, Texas, about two hours southeast of Arlington. She defeated Austin’s Sydney Givens 5 and 4 to claim victory in the tournament, which featured 80 entrants.

A professional sound designer and host of the award-winning podcast Twenty Thousand Hertz, Taylor (’03 BA, Music Media) is on a mission to bring sound out of the shadow of its showier sensory sibling—visuals—and put it squarely in the spotlight, so that it can reap the respect and wonder it’s due.
Materials science workshop

Volunteer for Move-In Day
Volunteer for Move-In Day Thursday, Aug. 17, 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and help more than 4,000 students settle into their new campus homes. Volunteers will receive a free T-shirt. Register for a two-hour shift by Monday, Aug. 14.
