MORE THAN 500 ORGANIZATIONS SIGN ONTO NIH FUNDING SUPPORT LETTER
Over 500 organizations and individuals, including Duke University and Duke Health, have signed onto a letter expressing concern about proposed FY26 budget cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), urging Congress to maintain strong support for medical research. They emphasize NIH's role in driving medical progress, economic growth and public health, and recommend a funding level of at least $51.3 billion to meet current scientific and health needs: "We respectfully request that you reject any cuts to NIH and instead work with the Administration on a different path forward, one that sets the stage for unprecedented medical progress as our nation approaches its 250th anniversary." The letter also calls for transparent discussions around any potential NIH restructuring.
