   COMMENCEMENT LIVES ON   

Spring 2026 commencement was a success! Congratulations to the newest Mean Green alumni. 

If you just can’t get enough of the joy of commencement, fear not! You can watch any of the 16 ceremonies on UNT’s YouTube channel in the Spring 2026 Commencement playlist (captions for all videos are coming soon). You also can watch the commencement recap to see if you can find a familiar face. 

 

   LOCAL GRADUATIONS   

DYK? In addition to our ceremonies, UNT hosts many local high schools’ graduation ceremonies at the UNT Coliseum throughout the month of May.

Parking and traffic might be affected, so check the schedule and plan accordingly.

   CITY EVENTS   

Looking for activities in Denton this summer? Check out the Denton Community Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday on 317 W. Mulberry St. Support local vendors and find crafts, fresh produce and other great items. You also can come out to Twilight Tunes from 6:30 to 8 p.m. every Thursday through June 18 on the downtown Denton courthouse lawn.

Enjoy a free concert and grab a bite to eat at any of the many dining options around the area. Check out the schedule to see who’s performing. 

 

   ORG FUNDING   

If your student organization needs funding for the Fall 2026 semester, apply for the Student Org Foundational Funding Award (SOFFA) by Sunday, May 24. Check the Student Affairs website to see if your student org is eligible and then follow the steps to apply.

   NORTON WRITER'S PRIZE   

The Norton Writer’s Prize is a national competition recognizing original undergraduate nonfiction writing. There are three cash prizes of $1,000 each for the winners of the competition. Submissions can include literary narratives, reports, arguments and more. Check out the Norton website for additional rules and information and make sure to submit yours by Monday, June 15.

   GO MEAN GREEN!   

UNT will host the 2026 American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 14, and 1:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 15-16. Come out to the Norma Knobel Hunt Stadium to watch your Mean Green runners, jumpers and throwers compete for a conference championship. Get your tickets today!

   CHASING DREAMS   

Ever wonder what it’s like when your job is chasing storms? UNT alumna Chelsea Burnett is living that dream right now!  After majoring in business and getting a job in that field, she decided to change paths and follow her passion for severe weather.

Read her story and see how she pushes the limits of storm chasing.

   LOSS FESTIVAL   

The Denton County Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors Team is a local nonprofit organization entirely funded through grants and donations. The organization is hosting its annual LOSS Music and Arts Festival from noon to   6 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Harvest House to raise money to support individuals and families who have lost a loved one to suicide.

Join them for an evening of community and outreach with performances, local art and resource sharing. UNT students get free entry with a valid student ID.

G. Brint Ryan College of Business graduates shared their little kid pics, comparing themselves to how they look donning their graduation cap, all grown up and ready to take on the world. Commencement weekend was full of unforgettable moments, and we are proud of all our graduates!
