Innovation Ignition Fund grant to fund anti-inflammatory drug discovery research
Sean Davies (Pharmacology) and co-lead Dr. Amanda Doran (Molecular Physiology and Biophysics) are the first to receive support from the Innovation Ignition Fund. Postdoctoral research fellows Abdul-Musawwir Alli-Oluwafuyi (Pharmacology) and Reza Fadaei (Pharmacology) will assist and Gary Sulikowski (Pharmacology) and Alex Waterson (Pharmacology) will provide scientific guidance for this project.

Rischelle Jenkins provides the steady center of Biomedical Informatics
Over her two decades in the department, Richelle Jenkins has worked alongside the program’s educational leadership, managing student recruitment and enrollment, organizing critical data for the Department of Biomedical Informatics’s National Library of Medicine grant, budgeting, overseeing weekly informatics seminars, and planning social activities for students.

Q&A with alum Randy Perera
Meet Randika “Randy” Perera, Fellow’24, who worked in the lab of Walter Chazin (Biochemistry) and is now a scientist at MilliporeSigma. His work is focused on developing antibody drug conjugate-based drugs. He discusses his experiences studying basic sciences and how it played a role in his successful career.

Septermber 14: Clip In 4 the Cure at GEODIS Park Clip In 4 the Cure is a high-energy, team cycling event that raises funds to defeat cancer. To register or learn more, visit the Clip In 4 the Cure website. Geodis Park, 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
September 16: 2024 Biochemistry Retreat The event will feature research presentations and a two-part poster session. Lunch and dinner will be provided and awards will be presented for top honors. Register on REDCap by Aug. 15.
September 20: Center for EV Research Retreat The event will feature three keynote speakers and various short talks. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Register on REDCap by Aug. 23. Abstracts can be submitted through REDCap through Sept. 6.
