Gemma Puglisi was recently named a finalist for the Ragan PR Daily Awards—under the category of "Communicator of the Year." The winner will be announced at a lunch on December 15th at the National Press Club.
Benjamin Stokes presented at the U.S. Department of Education’s “EdGames Expo” with SOC students in our PhD, MA and MFA programs. Specifically, our team presented on “Hive Mechanic: An Authoring System for Civic Games and Neighborhood Stories,” based on the game engine created at the Game Center/SOC/CAS. See more here.
Caty Borum was a featured guest on NPR's "Science Friday" program, talking about the science of comedy for public engagement in the climate crisis. The episode is entitled "The Climate Movement Should Be Funnier." Listen here:
Kurt Braddock provided comments to the Associated Press about a political ad showing a candidate using a flame thrower and threatening to burn books if elected. Kurt noted that it is not too far a leap in logic to go from the symbolic burning of books to manifest violence against perceived enemies.
Kurt will also be meeting with the a Deputy State Secretary in Latvia's Ministry of Culture in October to discuss issues related to Russian disinformation in eastern Europe. Kurt plans to discuss issues related to Russia's disinformation operations in Ukraine, as well as its active measures in affecting elections in the United States.
John Blackburn (MA, ’19, FMA) won his third Telly Award in 2023 in the Education and Discover–Social Media Category for “End Wildlife Trafficking.” He’s a video producer with U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement.
