“When we're on the mission field, we know we are exactly where we're supposed to be and doing exactly what we're supposed to be doing,” shares longtime local NMI president Lori Bruce. “Obviously, we are only a small part of the overall objective, and our missionaries are the ones who are tasked with the important responsibilities, but we always have a chance to play a role. That sense of purpose is very fulfilling. Who could ever ask for more?”

Lori and her husband Ted serve in Nazarene missions both on the field and at home in Jefferson City, Missouri. Learn more about their story in this video.
While on the field, the biggest challenge for Lori is missing her home and family, especially her mother. She says, “We've always been close, and I struggle sometimes being far away and out of reach for extended periods of time.” Transitioning back to the United States has its own struggles, though. “It takes me awhile to find my place and feel fulfilled on a daily basis.”

Serving in NMI helps. So does hosting missionary families who are in the US and need a place to stay.
According to Lori, “Nazarene missionaries are amazing! Over and over again, we are challenged and encouraged by how committed they are to the Kingdom, how obvious their faith is, and how tirelessly they obediently do the work they feel called to do. Seldom are their days exciting, and seldom are their sacrifices and successes recognized- but that doesn't appear to matter; they are obedient and faithful. And they inspire us constantly.”

|
| - Pray that God will show you your role in reaching the world for Christ. Is it to serve in NMI? Is it to go to the missions field? Is it both?
- Pray that missionaries would sense God’s pleasure even on days when their sacrifices and successes are not recognized by others.
|
|
| - Praise God for calling Nazarenes of all ages.
- Praise God for a church that makes room for everyone to join the mission – whether on the field or at home.
