BIDEN ADMIN FORGIVES STUDENT LOAN DEBT FOR ADDITIONAL 150K BORROWERS

The Biden administration announced Monday that 150,000 borrowers will receive student loan forgiveness. This includes 85,000 borrowers defrauded by their schools, 61,000 with permanent disabilities and 6,100 public service workers. This latest and likely final round of debt relief from this administration brings the total number of individuals helped to over 5 million.

SUPREME COURT TO EXAMINE BIDEN BORROWER DEFENSE RULE

The U.S. Supreme Court announced Friday that it would examine a decision from an appellate court that blocked the Biden administration’s student debt relief rules for borrowers misled by their colleges or affected by school closures. In April, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an injunction halting changes to regulations related to borrower defense and closed school discharges. The Supreme Court has not set a date for oral arguments, but a decision is expected by summer.

FIRST SENATE CONFIRMATION HEARINGS TODAY

The Senate has begun its first confirmation hearings of President-elect Trump's cabinet picks. Kicking off the process is Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth today. Tomorrow, Senate committees are expected to hold hearings for Kristi Noem, Homeland Security Secretary; Pam Bondi, Attorney General; Sean Duffy, Transportation Secretary; John Ratcliffe, CIA Director; Marco Rubio, Secretary of State; Chris Wright, Energy Secretary; and Russel Vought, Director of Office of Management and Budget.
