New Password Management with Fischer Identity Management |
The timely update provided below is for faculty and staff as a part of Encompass.
|
|
|
As part of Encompass and preparations to retire SAP, the university is transitioning to Fischer Identity Management (IdM), a leading cloud-based identity and access solution. This transition is essential to support our new enterprise systems, including Banner and Workday, while enhancing security and user experience.
The transition will begin on Friday, September 5, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. and continue through the weekend. During this period, password updates will not be possible.

Our current identity management solution relies heavily on SAP. As we migrate from SAP to Banner and Workday, the current identity management solution will no longer work.
Fischer provides a modern, secure, and scalable replacement that protects our investment in Banner and Workday and helps future-proof our identity management practices.
|
Fischer is replacing the current method used for changing WebID passwords. This new solution provides a user-friendly method for password recovery using phone numbers and external email addresses. Fischer also has new password requirements.

Potential Action Needed by September 4 |
If your password is set to expire between September 5–7, please reset it by Thursday, September 4, 2025, to avoid disruptions during the transition window.
If your password is set to expire within 30 days, a countdown timer will appear in the top-right corner of your myOleMiss screen (under your name) after logging in. If you see the timer, we recommend resetting your password in advance.

Password Recovery Enhancements |
After the September 5 cutover, users will be able to add a personal recovery email and phone number. This will improve UM security and help expedite self-service password resets, because you will no longer need to reach out to IT for support.
Once recovery methods have been set up:
|

- If a phone number is set as a preferred recovery method, users will receive an SMS message from this number with a Florida area code: (863) 342-2127.
- If an external email is set as a preferred recovery method, users will receive a reset link via email.
Please note that your @olemiss.edu address cannot be used as a recovery email.

You can add this number to your contacts, so you don’t miss a critical message because the number is unfamiliar or seems like spam.

The Multifactor Authentication (MFA) process is not changing. To use single sign-on (SSO), you will still be directed to the current single sign-on page that you are already accustomed to when logging in.

To enhance security standards, new limitations around passwords will be introduced. Passwords may not include phrases like “OleMiss” or parts of your name. View the full list of password restrictions.

Passwords that have been compromised in data breaches (known as “pwned passwords”) will also be blocked. Learn more.
