UTA named top public university in America for veterans

UTA is the nation’s top public university for military service members and veterans and No. 2 among all universities, according to the 2023 Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges list. The annual Military Times ranking bills itself as the largest and most comprehensive in the nation in examining the best schools for military service members and veterans.

UTA hires new dean for School of Social Work

UTA has selected Kirk A. Foster as the next dean of the School of Social Work, entrusting him with leading the school in its mission to address pressing societal issues and provide evidence-based solutions.

UTA researcher to build price estimator for TxDOT

Mohsen Shandashti, associate professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, is leading a team to develop a tool that will aid the Texas Department of Transportation in assessing and pricing contracts for major infrastructure works.

Coursera access for Mavericks

Mavericks can access 40 professional certificates from leading companies such as Google, Salesforce, IBM, Meta, and Intuit through the Career Academy on Coursera platform. Kulfi Chronicles

Hear the inspiring story of the family members behind Kaurina's Kulfi and how they turned a homemade recipe into a national ice cream brand. Attend Kulfi Chronicles, set for Wednesday, Nov. 8, 12-1 p.m. on the sixth-floor atrium of the Central Library, and taste the authentic South Asian delight of Kulfi.

UT System Day

For UT System Day, the Office of Talent, Culture, and Engagement, Staff Advisory Council, and Employee Advisory Council will stop by each department with mid-week treats to acknowledge and appreciate faculty and staff for being a part of the UT System. Visits will be through 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Scholarship, research opportunities for students

The deadline to apply for the McNair Scholars Program is Friday, Nov. 10. The deadline to apply for the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program and the Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program is Monday, Nov. 20. Eligibility criteria are listed on the application forms.

College Park District gearing up for Homecoming

On Saturday, Nov. 11, College Park District is hosting a Passport Scavenger Hunt during the Homecoming Tailgate from 12-3 p.m. Pick up your passport card at the table on Spaniolo Drive and collect stamps for swag or samples at each location. Fill up your passport and trade it in for a free T-shirt and a chance to win the grand prize.

UT Flex deadline

For the 2022-23 plan year, Tuesday, Nov. 15, is the last day to incur UT Flex-qualifying health care expenses, and Wednesday, Nov. 30, is the UT Flex health care and dependent day care claim filing deadline. If you have questions, email benefits@uta.edu or call 817-272-5554.

Dr. Diane Mitschke Mitschke, outstanding mentor

Outstanding mentor recognized

Diane Mitschke, associate professor of social work and associate dean of academic and student affairs, was honored as an outstanding mentor at the Feminist Networking Breakfast at the annual program meeting for the Council on Social Work Education. This award is given annually to faculty members, who are nominated by a student or faculty member at their institution.

Fall Into Fitness

UT System’s Fall Into Fitness Challenge is ending soon. Participants will have until Wednesday, Nov. 15, to load their activity onto their team’s page. Groups of three to five participants are encouraged to collectively log 1 million steps through Sunday, Nov. 12. For more information, visit UTA Wellness.

Honors Research Symposium

The Honors Research Symposium is a culmination of months of hard work and dedication of honors students. Poster presentations will be held Friday, Nov. 17, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the E. H. Hereford University Center, Rio Grande Ballroom. The event is free and open to faculty, staff, students, and the community.
