The Extension Institute of Human Development & Relationships provides the tools Wisconsinites need to thrive as well-rounded, capable individuals and families. We support families in caring for each other in ways that promote growth and understanding. Our programs promote aging-friendly communities, coach effective parents and help families put technology, mindfulness, and financial awareness to use.

Triple P Seminar Classes: Parents & Caregivers With Children Ages 0-12

Jan 6, 13, 20, 27, 2026 (Weekly Tuesdays) | 3pm or 6pm | Virtual

Join us to learn how to help children develop social and emotional skills such as good communication and problem-solving. You’ll gain practical strategies for building loving bonds with your kids and handling challenging behavior effectively. 

Triple P: Family Transitions 

Jan 6 - Feb 3, 2026 (Weekly Tuesdays) | 6-8pm | Virtual

This series of classes is designed for parents and caregivers who are separating or divorcing and may be experiencing distress. We focus on skills to resolve conflict with former partners and cope with stress. We'll also share how to talk with children about divorce and help them cope with their emotions. You'll leave with ideas for forming a new family identity and supporting your family during this change.

 

Resilient Co-Parenting: Families Fighting Fair

Jan 8, 2026 | 7-8pm | Virtual

This month’s class focuses on families fighting fair. Learn how to manage conflicts with your co-parent in a way that benefits your children. This session covers positive conflict management, compromise, reframing, and active listening.

Focus on Fathers: Fathers Help Children Stand Up for Themselves

Jan 13, 2026 | 1-2pm | Virtual

As kids grow, they face more choices and challenges. This class helps fathers teach decision-making, self-confidence, and safety—skills every child needs to thrive. Join us and learn how your guidance can make all the difference.

 

RENT Smart

Jan 13-30, 2026 (Tuesdays/Fridays) | 9-10am | Virtual

Make renting a great experience for you—whether it’s your first time renting or longer! Gain financial and communication strategies to help you plan your monthly finances, maintaining positive relationship with your landlord, and navigating the renting application.

Raising Wisconsin’s Children: Speaking Your Child’s Love Language

Jan 15, 2026 | 1-2pm | Virtual

Clear communication helps us connect. Learn how speaking your child’s love language benefits their growth and well-being. Everyone is welcome!

The Family Engagement and Relationships (FER) program at UW–Madison Extension Dane County support strong family engagement and other interpersonal relationships that significantly contribute to the health and well-being of individuals, communities, and economics. Extension provides well-researched, quality information and programs to further support parenting and family relationships. The Financial Education Program at UW–Madison Extension of Dane County helps families and individuals to achieve financial well-being, reach for financial goals, planning for life’s unexpected events, and build a secure financial future.
