Introducing Experience & Self-Service in Banner |
The timely update provided below is for faculty and staff as a part of Encompass.
As we prepare for our transition to Banner by Ellucian, we’re excited to share one of the biggest changes coming to campus: Experience—a modern, user-friendly portal will become the primary hub for students beginning in the early spring semester.
This newsletter covers what Experience is, how it works, and what to expect as it rolls out. We’re also sharing a recording of a demonstration to see Experience and Self-Service in action.
Later this week, we’ll send a campus-wide communication to all students formally introducing Experience and previewing what’s ahead in both Workday and Banner. You’ll see these messages echoed across campus to help reinforce awareness and readiness.

Experience is a role-based, mobile-friendly dashboard that will eventually serve as the main gateway to academic tools and information for our students. Offering the academic functions of myOleMiss, Experience will provide real-time access to everything from course registration to financial aid.
Think of Experience as a personalized, single-sign-on home screen for academics and campus life that adapts to each user’s role—student, faculty, staff, advisor, or a combination of these.
-
Fewer logins and fewer steps
- A clean, intuitive interface
- Personalized views for different roles
- Mobile-responsive and accessible
- One centralized place for tasks, deadlines, and action items

How It Works: Cards, Pages & Personalized Tools |
Cards = The Building Blocks |
Cards are interactive tiles within Experience that function like apps. Each card displays real-time information or links to other tools, such as class schedules, grades, registration, financial aid, announcements, and more.
To get the most out of Experience, users can:
- Search for cards using keywords or categories
-
Filter by tags (academics, advising, financial aid, etc.)
- Drag and drop to personalize their home screen
- Bookmark favorites
- Hide cards they don’t need
| |
Some cards are purely informational; others let you take action (like registering for classes). Some links lead to more detailed Experience Pages (such as Financial Aid), where students can access expanded information without leaving the portal. There are even some cards available just for fun, like a Sudoku card!
| What you see depends on who you are:
-
Students will access registration, grades, advising tools, financial aid, and campus life resources.
- Faculty & staff will see dashboards tailored to teaching, advising, and administrative responsibilities.
This role-aware design ensures security, relevance, and a cleaner user experience.
Notifications, Tasks, Calendar & Announcements |
Experience includes built-in communication tools that help users stay on top of key deadlines:
-
Notifications highlight real-time updates (e.g., registration holds, aid posted).
- Tasks require action (e.g., missing documents).
- The Calendar lets users view key academic and campus events at a glance.
- Announcements appear at the top of the dashboard and can be targeted to specific groups.
General & Student Self-Service |
Experience provides the entry point to Self-Service (both General and Student Self-Service). Self-Service allows users to manage personal information, register for classes, view grades, access financial aid, and handle other tasks without needing to contact a central office for every request.
Allows students and other users to:
- Update personal information
-
Adjust communication preferences
- Manage contact details
- And more!
Consolidates academic resources into one view for easy management to help students perform everyday tasks and review information like:
- Grades and academic history
- Degree progress
- Advisor information
- Graduation applications
- Key registration tools
This information is also accessible via various Cards on the Experience homepage.
Experience is designed to grow with students throughout their time at Ole Miss!
