The CHHS Webinar Series Returns

It’s back! The CHHS Webinar Series returned this spring, featuring thought-provoking conversations on pressing health and humanitarian issues. The series kicked off with Dr. Lauren Steimle and her engaging talk, “Reimagining Maternal Healthcare Delivery in the U.S.” Next, the series welcomed Dr. Xiao Liu, who explored advanced modeling techniques for wildfire smoke prediction in “Wildfire Smoke and Health Impact – Preliminary Results and Research Opportunities.”

Learning Data-Driven Methods to Tackle Real-World Health and Humanitarian Supply Chain Challenges 

Over the past four weeks, professionals from Italy, Guatemala, South Africa, Panama, Namibia, and the United States, representing NGOs, government agencies, and private industry, completed CHHS’s Health and Humanitarian Supply Chain Management certificate program. Participants engaged in a broad range of topics focused on building responsive supply chains in health and humanitarian settings. Through lectures, simulations, case studies, and hands-on games, they explored real-world challenges and strategies to improve planning and strategic decision-making. By the end of the program, participants gained practical tools and actionable insights to enhance the efficiency, adaptability, and impact of their organizations’ supply chains. Health Systems: The Next Generation Forum 2026

On February 18th, the Center for Health and Humanitarian Systems  and the School of Industrial and Systems Engineering hosted researchers, students, and health leaders for a day of discussions around the challenges and opportunities shaping health systems. The agenda included faculty lightning talks, a student poster competition, an industry panel, and a networking session.

BERD Forum 2026: "Artificial Intelligence in Medical and Health Care Systems" 

The Georgia CTSA Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) Forum saw a record number of attendees this year. The event, co-sponsored by CHHS and hosted by the School of ISyE, brought together researchers, faculty, trainees, and industry professionals for conversations around building a collaborative ecosystem for AI in health. Dr. Nicoleta Serban, pictured, delivered a presentation highlighting the work of core CHHS affiliates.

CHHS Director Shared Her Expertise on Infectious Disease Control in International Webinar Series 

CHHS Director, Pinar Keskinocak, presented at the first 2026 session of the Sustainable Health & Humanitarian Operations Webinar Series, a collaborative initiative by faculty members at Koç University, ODTU and Sabanci University. Dr. Keskinocak discussed how infectious disease modeling can help guide complex intervention decisions in resource-constrained environments and evolving public health challenges.

CHHS Webinar - Infectious Disease Forecasting with Digital Data Streams: Comparing AI Transformers with Classical Statistical Methods

Drawing from ongoing participation in the CDC FluSight forecasting initiative, Dr. Shihao Yang will compare the strengths and limitations of both paradigms and share practical lessons learned from real-time deployment. The talk aims to offer perspective on when and how statistical rigor and deep learning flexibility each contribute to reliable disease forecasting.
