Jane Hall was the moderator and executive producer of an American Forum event and media production on the 2024 election and media and politics with Tara Palmeri, an outstanding SOC alum and political journalist. Tara--who has already had a remarkable career--is currently senior political correspondent at the Puck news site as well as host of The Ringer's "Somebody's Gotta Win" election podcast. She also is on cable TV, does online videos and has a big presence on social media. She talked with Jane and our great students from SOC and across AU about her work and ethics as a journalist across these platforms and in the current media environment. We talked with our students and others about the important issues and media coverage of them in this campaign; the challenges of disinformation--and worse--in this campaign--and about optimism along with the challenges for young journalists today in this world. We were recording for broadcasting – and we'll be in touch soon with more on that. Lot of people to thank: Kati Vera; Jacob Audouin; Tia Milledge, Veronica Castro and Grace Ibrahim; Tom Fish, Madds Wooten; Lindsay Zimnoch, Victora Black and Jake Bridges; Mateo Guevara, Arpitha Sistla and Maddie Gerber, Todd St. John; Aidan Skidds; Terry Bryant, Gemma Puglisi, Aarushi Sahejpal and Chris Adams; Kristi Plahn-Gjersvold, Gerard Maguire, Meriem Tikue and Morgan Dreibelbis; and—of course—our Dean, Marnel Niles Goins. Here's an article about it.
Jane was also interviewed and offered her commentary on podcasting and trends in legacy media coverage in the final days of the campaign, live on Bloomberg TV and radio's "Balance of Power" show. The interview was seen and heard in both a live, five-minute video-podcast and in an extended version of the interview that was also broadcast on the hour-long radio program.
