|
Join the Homecoming crew and the Division of Student Affairs for the annual Chili Cook-Off Wednesday, Nov. 6, 12-1:30 p.m. in the Palo Duro Lounge of the University Center. Teams will compete to win the ultimate prize of Chili Cook-Off champion, bragging rights, and an awesome trophy. The cook-off is open to all UTA students, faculty, staff, and alumni groups. First-Generation Celebration

The Office of Transition Programs and Services is thrilled to host the First-Generation Celebration Monday, Nov. 4, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on the sixth floor of the UTA Central Library. To represent the five generations within the workforce, the event will feature a panel of first-generation faculty and staff volunteers. Native American Heritage Month

Native American Heritage Month at UTA will start with a kick-off event Monday, Nov. 4, 5:30-7 p.m. in the Rio Grande Ballroom of the University Center. All Mavericks are welcome to build community and enjoy dinner and performances from local Native drum and dance groups.

The UTA Faculty Senate and the Staff Advisory Council invite you to join your colleagues for the biannual Faculty and Staff Mixer Thursday, Nov. 7, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Maverick Activities Center basketball courts. The event will feature a guest speaker, Provost Tamara Brown, and a brief presentation on Open Educational Resources from students enrolled in one of UTA's public relations classes. The University of Texas System Employee Advisory Council created Founders Day in November 2013, which we celebrate as UT System Day at UTA, to honor our sense of family, unity, and pride in being part of the UT System. For UT System Day, the Office of Talent, Culture, and Engagement; the Staff Advisory Council; and the Employee Advisory Council will stop by each department with midweek treats to appreciate faculty and staff for being a part of the UT System. Visits will be through 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

The search committee for the new dean of the College of Nursing and Health Innovation (CONHI) met last week to launch the search, discuss the schedule and timeline, and finalize the dean’s position profile. You can share the position profile with individuals you believe would be well-positioned to lead CONHI. You can also suggest potential candidates to the search team.

Congratulations, Jose Badillo
|
Procurement and Strategic Sourcing’s Jose Badillo has been selected to represent UTA in the University of Texas System Supply Chain Alliance's Emerging Leaders cohort. Badillo has worked at UTA since 2022 and serves primarily Auxiliary Services and the Office of Facilities Management. The Emerging Leaders cohort provides a collaborative environment among UT System supply chain professionals through monthly sessions on leadership, supply chain trends, and higher education issues across the campus community.

A special opportunity for aspiring leaders
|
The Office of Talent, Culture, and Engagement is launching the Aspiring Leaders Cohort Program in January. This three-month leadership development program is designed for individuals who want to learn about leadership influence, self-awareness, and building relationships. It's not about how to lead other people; it's about how to lead yourself. Open to UTA employees with at least six months of employment, the program requires supervisor approval to participate. | A way to reduce memory declines
|
Hunter Ball, associate professor of psychology at UTA, is the lead author of a study on how setting reminders can eliminate some age-related declines in memory. The findings offer a significant breakthrough in addressing the cognitive challenges faced by older adults, particularly in the context of prospective memory, which is the ability to remember to perform an intended action at the right moment, like taking medication or attending appointments.
