Dear Friends,
Greetings! I hope you and your loved ones are doing well. We’ve entered a brand new semester here at Emory and I’d love to share some exciting updates on behalf of the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life and Hindu Life.
We kicked off the new academic year with our signature Welcoming Interfaith and Spiritual Exploration (WISE) pre-orientation program with over 40 participants. Alongside various historic religious and spiritual sites in Atlanta, we had the opportunity for enriching and delicious visits to the Hindu Temple of Atlanta and the Sikh Study Circle Gurdwara as part of the program. In other news, our Hindu Students Association had the unique opportunity to celebrate Onam and Janmashtami--including making their own butter!--and they’re looking forward to Ganesh Chaturthi festivities in the coming days.
Preparations for the Emory Interfaith Center have been underway for quite some time, but I’m pleased to share that our grand opening celebration will take place during
Homecoming and Family Weekend on Saturday, October 21 at 3:00-4:30 p.m. As many of you know, we have custom handmade altars and a cabinet being made for our Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and Sikh communities, and they will be setting sail from India in just a few days. We’re so grateful for your support in making these important pieces a reality for the Emory community. If you would like to make a contribution towards the shrines and/or towards a particular community, we’d welcome donations
HERE or during Emory’s Giving Week, October 30-November 3. You register for the Opening Celebration by clicking the poster below.
