Welcoming in a New Year with our time-honored mission: Connecting Your World

Download Images to View As a new year is upon us, we cannot help but reflect with gratitude for all of you who have been with us over this past year. Whether you are a long-standing, loyal customer or brand new to Hamilton, we appreciate you. We are also grateful for our team of incredibly talented and dedicated employees, working to keep our business and your services up and running all the time.

We strive every day to ensure that we deliver on our promise of Connecting Your World wherever or whatever your world may be. Your family, work, entertainment and success is important to you and providing the connections that make it all possible is important to us.

We had a busy year in 2022. We acquired Nebraska Central Telephone Company (NCTC) and continued fiber-to-the-home construction. We have tried to keep you informed in a variety of ways regarding our construction progress and are pleased to announce we have made great strides toward bringing fiber to every home and business throughout our service territories. We are thankful for the patience and excitement of our customers throughout this process.

Transitioning our NCTC customers and employees to Hamilton has been very rewarding, and we are appreciative of the customers, employees, friends and neighbors we have made along the way. We began construction in several of our new customer areas completing fiber construction in Dannebrog and moving right into Burwell.

Today, businesses are more exposed to cybersecurity threats than ever. We have expanded our cybersecurity solutions for businesses to help our clients protect their data from this increased exposure. All businesses need to be assessing their cybersecurity posture, and we are pleased to offer our services in this area.

Through our Relay and Captioned Telephone Services, we remain committed to providing access to telephone connections for individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, DeafBlind or have difficulty speaking. We continue to bring many choices to our customers — both in how customers access our services and the technology used to process calls.

We continue to focus our efforts on innovations, and finding new paths, processes and ways that we can enhance the lives of our customers and better our communities.

We are excited for another year and new opportunities to serve you each day. We thank you for your business and the trust you continue to place in us. Here's to a new year! May it bring new opportunities, health and happiness.

From our families to yours,

John Nelson, CEO

New Year, Fresh Updates

With the New Year comes the anticipation that we are going to start fresh on a variety of things in our life. As we take a look at our technology, we shouldn't forget to consider what tasks should be completed to keep it protected, safe and up-to-date.

Here's your monthly reminder to update your antivirus software, change your passwords and backup your data/devices.

Download Images to View ✔ If you need assistance with adding an antivirus software to your computer, our experts are here to help. Just give us a call and we can help you get the right antivirus to protect your valuable information.

✔ We recommend that you change/update your passwords regularly to keep your information secure. Choose passwords that are a mix of letters and numbers (both upper and lower case) as well as special characters. Use non-repeating characters as much as possible.

✔ Do a monthly computer backup today! Utilize an external hard drive or cloud-based program to back your entire hard drive up. In the event that your computer crashes, gets a virus or runs into issues, you will have your data readily available to access again.

We are here and ready to help you start the New Year off with security and peace of mind that your files and data are safe. Give our team a call today for help with any of these recommendations!

Should I Reboot or Restart my Computer?
What's the difference?

Download Images to View When you run into issues with your computer and it isn't performing how you want it to, the age-old saying is shut down, restart. Right? But why and when do the experts recommend restarting your computer or device? Does it really help with common computer tech issues? Let's take a look at the difference and when you should utilize them.
  1. Computer Reboot – This is when the computer shuts down and disconnects from power and then restarts. This is what is known as a "hard reboot". A reboot is essential for allowing the programs running in the background to reset and clear the cache. This helps the programs and your computer run smoother upon restart.

  2. Computer Restart – A computer reboot and a restart are essentially the same thing. A restart is the action that initiates the reboot of the operating system. Selecting the restart button on the start menu signals the computer reboot. During both a reboot and a restart, the temporary files are cleaned up and all background processes are cancelled allowing your computer to run faster upon restart.

  3. Computer Reset – The third term you might hear is a computer reset. This action is completely different from a reboot or restart. A computer reset will take the machine back to its original state with the reinstallation of the operating system. This action is only done when you want to completely wipe the computer clean and start fresh. With this action, all applications and programs are removed.
Our experts recommend that you reboot your computer at least once per week to allow your machine to perform at optimum levels. It doesn't hurt to completely shut down your computer a couple of times per week. It's really up to you and your computer's needs, but once per week is the ideal minimum. If you utilize your computer frequently, allowing your computer to go to "sleep" when not in use will help conserve battery life and energy. This is a great option for the days where you are not shutting down and restarting your computer fully.
