Aarushi Sahejpal was on three panels during the annual National Institute of Computer-Assisted Reporting conference, representing both SOC and IRW to talk about trans data, the future of data journalism education, and visualizing data with large-language models. He was joined for one day of the conference, held in Baltimore from March 7-10, by IRW interns and SOC grad students, including Cameron Adams, Hamed Ahmadi, Kate Hapgood, Helena Milburn, Elijah Pittman, Julia Mouketo, and IRW post-graduate fellow Hayden Godfrey. Also at NICAR: Former IRW interns Nasmul Ahasan, Samantha Eley, Savanna Strott, and Shwetha Surendran.

Olivia Diaz, a member of the journalism M.A. class of 2023, has won a 2024 FASPE Fellowship. These Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics are awarded competitively to applicants from around the world. The program says it challenges professionals to recognize and exercise their ethical and leadership responsibilities in business, technology, journalism, law, and medicine. The fellowships begin with intense study in Germany and Poland where FASPE takes advantage of the power of place to translate the history into the present. Diaz is currently a reporter at The Washington Post covering criminal justice in Virginia.
On Tuesday, Kurt Braddock addressed the UK Government's Counterterrorism Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre on his research related to undermining extremist messaging. Kurt discussed how best to prevent the assimilation of beliefs and attitudes consistent with extremist violence by inducing psychological reactance in response to extremist propaganda.
