Faculty Awards
- Phoebe Cohen, chair and associate professor of geosciences, won a 2021 Division Award for outstanding geobiologists from the Geological Society of America (GSA) for her work reconstructing ancient organisms and ecosystems. She was recently interviewed by Nature about a controversial sponge-like fossil that some scientists say may be Earth’s earliest-known animal.
- Pamela E. Harris, math professor and faculty fellow of the Davis Center and Office of Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, was named a fellow of the IAspire Leadership Academy, which offers professional development opportunities for STEM faculty from underrepresented groups.

Lab supervisor and lecturer Jay Racela from Williams’ Environmental Analysis lab reported that July 2021 was “the wettest month of all our records dating back to 1892” for the Berkshires, with 14 inches of rain measured at Hopkins Memorial Forest; the average is 4.2 inche
