Orange County Commissioners to Consider Emergency Funding for Community Food Providers Nov. 6 |

At its meeting on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m., the Orange County Board of Commissioners will consider transferring up to $54,000 from the county’s Social Justice Reserve to provide additional support to community partners that provide food for residents facing food insecurity. Orange County Manager Travis Myren will recommend a budget amendment that would allocate funding to the following organizations:

Inter-Faith Council for Social Services (IFC) – $15,000
- Orange Congregations in Mission (OCIM) – $15,000
- PORCH Chapel Hill/Carrboro – $12,000
- PORCH Hillsborough – $12,000

Rides will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Scheduling a ride does not guarantee food services. Residents can help by donating to food pantries, volunteering, and sharing verified updates. Operation Green Light for Veterans from Nov. 4 to 11 |

Orange County Honors Veterans with Operation Green Light From November 4–11. Several Orange County buildings will be illuminated green as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide initiative led by counties, the National Association of Counties (NACo), and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers.
This effort recognizes the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans and raises awareness about the resources available at the county, state, and federal levels to support veterans and their families.

Tax Assessment Work Group Holds Inaugural Meeting |
|
|
| Orange County’s Tax Assessment Work Group convened for its first meeting on Oct. 31. During this session, members reviewed the group’s charge and role, setting the foundation for their future work.
The Work Group was established to review and evaluate the policies, processes, and procedures used by the Orange County Tax Office in assessing property values.

|
|
In addition, the group will examine how the Tax Office communicates with the public about assessments and will serve as an advisory body, providing feedback and input to a consultant that will be hired by the county.
Members includes county commissioners Marilyn Carter, Amy Fowler and Phyllis Portie-Ascott, along with County Manager Travis Myren and other county staff, community representatives, and housing advocates.

Deadline for SBA Disaster Loans for Nonprofits Affected by Tropical Storm Chantal is Nov. 10 |

|
The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) reminds eligible private nonprofit organizations in North Carolina that the deadline to apply for disaster loans related to Tropical Depression Chantal is Nov. 10, 2025. These loans help offset losses from physical damage caused by the storm on July 6–7, 2025.
To apply online, visit sba.gov/disaster. For more information, contact SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955or email disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. Individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability can dial 7-1-1 to access telecommunications relay services.
