CEF Director Maggie Burnette Stogner and alum Sam Sheline, who is now a producer at National Geographic Society’s Story Lab, presented an impact storytelling workshop at the AAAS.org conference at Washington, D.C.’s Convention Center. The American Association for the Advancement of Science has some 120,000 members and is dedicated to “advancing science, engineering and innovation throughout the world for the benefit of all people.” Nearly 100 people attended the workshop, which focused on strategies for creating engaging, inspiring, and empowering science communication.
UN World Wildlife Day celebrated 50 years of CITES and 10 years of the Endangered Species Act, landmark resolutions and regulations that protect flora and fauna around the globe. Jackson Wild sponsored the World Wildlife Day Film Festival that drew hundreds of outstanding submissions from around the world. Maggie Burnette Stogner has frequently served as a film judge for this event. To watch the selected films, go here. The International Fund for Wildlife Welfare (IFWW) sponsored an International Youth Art Contest which drew over 500 submissions from around the globe. Actress and author Alicia Silverstone recognized the winner, 13-year-old Poonyisa Sodsai of Thailand whose colorful artwork brings attention to the plight of endangered hornbills. Kurt Braddock was mentioned in the Atlanta Jewish Times for his role in a discussion surrounding anti-Semitism with the Network for Responsible Public Policy. The AJT quoted Kurt's comments from his discussion, particularly in relation to the role of public rhetoric in supporting anti-Semitism.
