Duke Partners with States on $421 Million Effort to Reduce Carbon Emissions
Duke University, as part of a coalition with four Mid-Atlantic states and The Nature Conservancy, received a $421 million grant from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) this week. The funds will go towards a variety of nature-based projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions, including the conservation or restoration of more than 200,000 acres of coastal habitats, forests and farmland in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. The coalition estimates that through combining all of their efforts, they can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 28 million metric tons of CO2e over the next 25 years.
