   DESIGN DEDICATION

For the fifth consecutive year, Graphic Design USA named UNT a top design school, recognizing the strength of CVAD's communication design program. Two CVAD students, Sophia Bryant and Rebecca Dugan, were named GDUSA Students to Watch.

Also, another student earned recognition at the highest level of competition. Christina Pearson Cross received a 2026 National Gold ADDY Award and the Special Judges' Choice Award in the American Advertising Federation's Student Division for her campaign concept, "Escape Your Habitat." Her work advanced through local, regional and national judging, and she became the sole UNT student recognized at the national level in this year’s competition.

   HAPPY JUNETEENTH

Friday, June 19, is Juneteenth, commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued Jan. 1, 1863, enslaved African Americans in Texas didn’t learn they were free until June 19, 1865. Today, the holiday is celebrated across the country.

The UNT campus will be closed that day and will reopen Saturday, June 20.

   OFF-CAMPUS HOUSING

Your search for off-campus housing starts here! UNT’s Off-Campus Housing Source helps you find the perfect place to live in Denton. Create a profile, browse listings and connect with potential roommates all in one place.

After you do that, apply for the Commuter Care award for your chance to win a free parking permit for the 2026-27 school year. The deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, June 26 (or when they reach the maximum number of submissions). After verifying your eligibility, submit your application.

   NATIONAL MASCOT DAY

Today, we celebrate our beloved mascot Scrappy on National Mascot Day! With the selection of the Eagle as our mascot in 1922, Scrappy has existed in many shapes and forms, including as a live eagle! His name may have changed over the years, but the bird will always be a vital part of UNT’s culture.

Read more about the history of Scrappy.
