UTA Libraries launches peer research program for students

Starting this month, the Research Mavs Program will allow experienced undergraduates to provide guidance, share research skills, and offer support to fellow students navigating the research process. This peer-to-peer collaboration, hosted in the Central Library, is designed to enhance academic skills, promote knowledge-sharing, and create a supportive community within the libraries and the University. Updates about this program will be posted on the UTA Libraries website and social media sites.

UTA’s College of Business will gather prominent economic leaders for a symposium to discuss the future of real estate in North Texas on Wednesday, March 20, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. During "DFW Real Estate—The Next Decade," experts from the region will examine area housing market trends.

The Center for Mexican American Studies Speaker Series continues on Friday, March 22, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. in the Central Library Atrium. Listen to the Texas and Arizona Panel of women experts delve into the challenges and triumphs women activists face and explore how digital tools are shaping the preservation of their stories. Good job, Mavericks

After advancing to the finals of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship Tournament, the UTA men’s basketball team lost 89-74 to Grand Canyon University— Phillip Russell and Shemar Wilson were selected for the 2024 All-Tournament Team. The loss marked the end of an eight-game winning streak for the Mavs, the program's longest since 2017 and the sixth-longest active streak in the nation. The UTA women’s basketball team fell to the top-seeded California Baptist Lancers in the WAC semifinals by a final score of 83-67— Avery Brittingham represented the Lady Mavs on the 2024 WAC All-Tournament Team.

The Maverick Pantry is hosting a thrift pop up and DIY tote bag event in collaboration with Student Government and the Office of Sustainability on Wednesday, March 20, at the Library East Mall Zone from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Students will pick out their favorite clothing and take their goodies home in a tote bag that they decorated themselves.

Earth Day acknowledges environmental accomplishments while emphasizing the necessity to preserve natural resources. The theme for this year's Earth Day is planet vs. plastics. It calls attention to the health risks of plastics and pushes for an end to fast fashion and single-use plastic products, and for a United Nations treaty on plastic pollution. Discover UTA’s efforts to establish a sustainable environment at The Earth Day Fair, which will be Tuesday, April 23, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Brazos Park. There will be T-shirts, food trucks, giveaways, activities, and music.

Join UTA for the 10th annual Jazz Brunch on Saturday, April 20. Enjoy a catered V.I.P. brunch featuring delicious food and great music in the heart of the Main Street Fort Worth Arts Festival. Tickets are $35 and include brunch and non-alcoholic drinks. Brunch is available from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. with UTA jazz performances scheduled for 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. Register by Saturday, April 16.

The Center for Mexican American Studies invites you to the 2024 Distinguished Lecture "Reclaiming Our Latino History and Heritage" with Julissa Natzely Arce Raya on Wednesday, April 17, 6- 9 p.m. in the Central Library Atrium. Julissa Natzely Arce Raya, national best-selling author, will discuss the complexities of Latino history, highlighting its richness and the significance of reclaiming the Latino narrative. RSVP for the lecture.

Living Well

Congratulations to everyone leveling up in the UT Living Well Platform. Winners include Cynthia Bradfield, Charles Biel, Thelma Cabera, Cynthia Stringer, Mayra Martinez, Nancy Biscoe, Heather Maxwell, Linda Letherwood, and Rhonda Seyfried. Learn more about the different levels by visiting the "My Points" tab on the Living Well website. Special rewards will be presented to all participants at the end of the program year based on their top achievement level. Check back each month for new activities.

UTA Network security enforcement

OIT is enabling network security enforcement on all UTA-owned and -managed Windows and Mac devices connected to the UTA campus network over the next two months. This work is part of the Network Access Control project. Enforcement will be conducted building by building as outlined in the enforcement schedule. Devices that do not meet security compliance standards will be quarantined and unable to access UTA resources. If your device is impacted, you will receive a pop-up approximately one week in advance.
