UTA College of Nursing and Health Innovation, 3rd Annual Women in Science Seminar

Women in Science Seminar

The College of Nursing and Health Innovation will hold its third annual Women in Science Seminar Wednesday, March 27, at noon in the Science & Engineering Innovation & Research (SEIR) building, Room 198. Guest speaker Beverly D. Ulrich will present “One Scientist’s Journey to Study Development of Neuromotor Control: From Theory to Practice.” RSVP is required for the breakfast before the event, which will take place 7:30-9 a.m. in SEIR Room 150.

Poetry reading

There will be a poetry reading followed by a Q&A session with author Taylor Byas on Wednesday, March 27, at 6 p.m. in the Physics Conference Room in the Chemistry and Physics Building. The event is free and open to everyone, thanks to the support of the Department of English and the Center for African American Studies.

Campus Tour

Tour for new employees

New faculty and staff are welcome to join a campus tour on the last Thursday of every month. Guided walking tours last approximately 1.5 hours. To attend, arrive at the Dan Dipert University Welcome Center, 580 South Center Street, about 15 minutes before the start time. The next tour is Thursday, March 28, at 2 p.m. Email questions to campustours@uta.edu.

Homerathon, Presented by the University Classics Club

Homerathon

Join the University Classics Club on Thursday, March 28, for the Homerathon, one of UTA's oldest enduring events! It is an all-day reading of Homer's The Odyssey, with 15-minute reading slots that allow for audience participation. There will be baked goods for sale for any passersby or potential audience members. Drop by Brazos Park any time between 7 a.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Gallery at UTA features work from longtime curator

The Gallery at UTA is saying farewell to Benito Huerta, professor of art and art history, with two concurrent exhibitions featuring work by Huerta and Janet Chaffee, his wife and longtime collaborator. The exhibitions, Profane Truths and Sacred Lies and Post Modern Fulcrum, are representative of who Huerta is as well as his growth as an artist since joining UTA in 1997. The exhibitions are on display until Saturday, March 30 and are free and open to the public.

Microsoft is moving all UTA Teams users to a new version of Teams at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 29. When you log in to your device after March 29, restart Teams. You can see more details on the Office of Information Technology website.

UTA Planetarium eclipse glasses

Eclipse glasses

A limited number of eclipse glasses will be made available to the UTA campus community the week prior to the eclipse. We will offer one pair of glasses per person. Glasses will be available at the information desks in the University Center and the Commons on April 2-5, while supplies last. We will also have glasses available at the viewing locations on the day of the eclipse, while supplies last.

 

If you wish to guarantee that you will have glasses, or you need more than one pair, you may purchase them in advance from the UTA Planetarium at this link.

UTA Network security enforcement

OIT is enabling network security enforcement on all UTA-owned and -managed Windows and Mac devices connected to the UTA campus network over the next two months. This work is part of the Network Access Control project. Enforcement will be conducted building by building as outlined in the enforcement schedule. Devices that do not meet security compliance standards will be quarantined and unable to access UTA resources. If your device is impacted, you will receive a pop-up approximately one week in advance.
