Black Grad will honor local African American graduates from TK-SBCC
SBCC, in partnership with the Santa Barbara Unified School District, announces a special, invitation-only ceremony honoring and celebrating the promotion, culmination, graduation and transfer of Black students in south Santa Barbara county, from transitional kindergarten through City College.
The ceremony, hosted by the SBCC Umoja Community, is scheduled for Saturday, May 6, 1-3 p.m. at the Fe’ Bland Forum on SBCC’s West Campus. Graduating Black scholars in the Santa Barbara community will be honored by VIP guests including family members, administrators from local elementary, junior high and high schools, as well as administrators from the Santa Barbara and Goleta Union School Districts. SBCC Board members and selected local officials are also invited. Read the press release.

Staff and students participate in campus equity survey
SBCC has partnered with the USC Race and Equity Center to administer the National Assessment of Collegiate Campus Climates (NACCC) Employee Survey, an assessment of racial climates on campus. The survey will assist in assessment of perceptions of equity in the workplace, and will serve as an important tool in creating an environment where everyone feels safe, welcomed and included. SBCC to play a big part in Old Spanish Days/Fiesta this year
In a change of venue for this year's Old Spanish Days, Aug. 2-6, the Fiesta carnival and a full Mercado and beer garden will take place at the Main Campus lower parking lots near SBCC’s La Playa Stadium. Historically, the carnival was first held at this spot, before moving to MacKenzie Park as part of Mercado del Norte which began in 1979. Read more.

Tenure attained by 2018 and 2019 cohorts
On April 21, appropriately the sunniest day of the year to that date, faculty members who began their SBCC tenure-track in 2018 and 2019 were celebrated with a ceremony and tenure certificates. Click here for info on the newly-tenured faculty and more photos.

Students and staff spread joy and fresh produce with on-campus events
While SBCC students have proven that online classes are appreciated and necessary to achieve a college/life balance, they have also shown an overwhelming desire to organize and participate in on-campus activities this semester. A robust Associated Student Government, Phi Theta Kappa (honors society), and SBCC Ambassadors are leading the way in getting students together, in addition to student services/needs based programs like the Basic Needs Center (BNC). Vaquero Roundup events take Summer dual enrollment to a whole other level
It was all hands on deck in the east campus cafeteria on March 3 and March 22 as SBCC's Dual Enrollment team hosted two Vaquero Roundup events targeted to local/out of area high school and junior high school students seeking in-person asssistance to register for Summer semester courses as dual enrollment students. Kudos to the Student Services team who showed up and pitched in. The events received some nice coverage from Noozhawk and KEYT!

SBCC Music's Trombone Choir celebrates its 10th anniversary
On Saturday, April 22, 2023, the SBCC Trombone Choir celebrated its 10th anniversary by hosting "Slide Show," comprised of a daytime master class and evening concert in SBCC's Fe Bland Forum, both of which featured special guest artist Dillon MacIntyre, principal trombonist for the Santa Barbara Symphony.
