Dear St. Lukers,
Let's give a round of applause to Chris Smith and Janet Chambers for an amazing three weeks of summer camp for preschool and elementary-age children. They have led a great team of leaders who have been teaching more than 400 kids to express our core values through art, music, dance, theater, STEM projects, and recreation fun. We are incredibly blessed with a fantastic staff who work with our children and families, helping teach and express the love of Jesus. If you see one of our children or youth staff/leaders, please show them some love after an amazing summer! They have lived out the core value of service through their care, excitement, and passion.
This week, we navigate life through our core value of service. Christ-centered love is lived out when discipleship forms us into people who serve as Christ served us. We serve one another and those in our community as we find our spiritual gifts, passions, and talents, and use those to reveal the Kin-dom. Through missions, serving on campus, volunteering in the community, and being in relationship with others, we find ways to honor Christ's image in other people.
One of the ways we serve each other is by recognizing the most vulnerable among us, and seeking to serve them by honoring them with our actions. St. Luke's COVID-19 Task Force continues to watch the COVID-19 numbers climb in our area. In his news conference this week, Mayor Demings issued a strong recommendation for wearing masks during indoor gatherings of large numbers. We want to continue to serve one another by reinstating precautions like social distancing during worship. We as your clergy have chosen together that we will be wearing masks again during worship when we are not speaking. We want to make this choice as a way of serving you, and helping our community get through this spike in numbers. It’s just another way we can choose to serve as Christ served us first, and love as Christ loves all.
See you in worship on Sunday either on campus or online, where it’s just not St. Luke's without U.
Your clergy team
