Technical Assistance? Are You Here to Fix My Computer? No, but We Are Here to Help |
Technical Assistance (TA) plays a vital role in strengthening the addiction treatment and recovery workforce, as well as supporting the adoption of effective, evidence-based practices across the behavioral health field. Within the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network, TA is a core strategy for improving practice, building capacity, and supporting systems change nationwide. But what exactly does TA entail?
At its core, TA is the transfer of knowledge, expertise, and resources from one party to another. This can take many forms, including developing and delivering trainings, providing consultation, supporting implementation efforts, creating tools and curricula, and facilitating peer-to-peer learning. TA acts as a bridge—connecting professionals, organizations, and systems with the information and support they need to strengthen their work.

Ode To Dave:
In Memory of NIATx Founder, David H. Gustafson, PhD.
Dave Gustafson always wanted to help people—whether his students, people with breast cancer needing social support, those with addiction, or their families. In his last decade, supporting families became his passion. His care for others profoundly shaped his work, his research, the interdisciplinary Center he created (the Center for Health Enhancement Systems Studies, or CHESS), and the relationships he built with students, colleagues, and collaborators. Dave’s family was at the center of his life. Their experiences often shaped the questions he asked and the research he undertook.
