Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC) is Seeking Applications for Clinical Investigation Programs!

Housed in the CRTC, the Mentored Training Program in Clinical Investigation (MTPCI) and Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) are designed to prepare junior faculty and young investigators for academic careers in clinical research and take investigators’ careers to the next level. New in 2025, the MSCI is now open to those who possess a Bachelor’s degree! Applications are due by November 1, 2025, for a January start date.

Check Out “What is the TSBM?” presented by the Center for Public Health Systems Science (CPH)

“What is the TSBM?” is a new live video that highlights the Translational Science Benefits Model (TSBM) framework and project at the CPHSS at the WashU School of Public Health. Viewers will learn how the TSBM and the Translating for Impact Toolkit are used by researchers in St. Louis and across the United States to plan for, assess, and demonstrate the impact of their work in the real world. The video also spotlights a case study titled “Detecting Brain Cancer Without a Knife,” which tells the story of the development of sonobiopsy technology by Dr. Hong Chen for noninvasive brain cancer detection.

ICTS JIT Core Spotlight – Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD)

The BERD core supports all phases of research study design, data collection, data analysis, and dissemination of results. BERD is supported by the Biostatistics Consulting Service, which provides biostatistical consultation in a wide range of areas including the statistical design of experiments and clinical trials, protocol development, database management, analysis of data and interpretation of results.

Registration is OPEN for the Genomics in Medicine Seminar Series!

The Genomics in Medicine seminar series offers attendees a practical background in molecular biology and genetics, an introduction to genomics technologies and research, and an understanding of the clinical application of genomics knowledge. Seminars are underway and held every Monday at 4:00pm through December 2, 2025.

Open October, presented by WashU Medicine Bernard Becker Medical Library and WashU Libraries, is a month-long series of events highlighting trends in open science, open data, and open access, coinciding with International Open Access Week. The mix of in-person and virtual events are free and open for all to attend, and registration is required.

The ICTS supports an ongoing, collaborative effort in the Just-In-Time (JIT) Core Usage Funding Program, designed to provide quick access to funding to use any of the affiliated Cores for research advancing medical knowledge that can improve human health.

ICTS Precision Health Innovation Awards
The ICTS Precision Health Innovation Awards provide up to $25,000 for research on rare diseases within precision health. Short applications with rapid turnaround are accepted on a rolling basis. Preference is for applications from independent faculty investigators for early-stage projects.

Institute for Informatics, Data Science & Biostatistics (I2DB) Calls for Submissions for Research Assistantship Opportunities
I2DB is currently inviting faculty to submit part-time research assistantship opportunities for incoming students across three MS programs within WashU Medicine:

- Biostatistics
- Biostatistics and Data Science
- Biomedical Informatics

Faculty can get help moving projects forward while contributing to real-world training for emerging researchers. Projects can be clinical, lab-based, or computational, depending on individual needs.

Clinical Research Training Center (CRTC) Seeks Applications for T1L Predoctoral Clinical Research Program
The TL1 Predoctoral Program provides career development for medical and allied healthcare students through didactic coursework, mentored training, work-in-progress research discussions, journal clubs, and conferences. Scholars in the program learn to design and conduct clinical research, analyze data, write manuscripts and grants, develop and present scientific posters, and compete for research funding. Applications are due by December 31, 2025.

NIH Notice: Policy and Training Requirement - Current and Pending (Other) Support
The NIH recently announced a requirement in NOT-OD-25-133 for institutions to have a policy in place to train on disclosure requirements for Current and Pending (Other) Support. In response to this notice, WashU’s Current and Pending (Other) Support Policy requires completion of the Current and Pending (Other) Support training by:

  • All senior/key personnel on proposals to or awards from a federal sponsor
  • All individuals in research administration who assist with Other Support documents for their senior/key personnel

The training has been assigned to all faculty paid by sponsored funds. Any senior/key personnel not assigned in Learn@Work must self-enroll and complete the training. The WashU Office of Sponsored Research Services will confirm that senior/key personnel training has been completed prior to submitting Current and Pending (Other) Support documents during the Just-In-Time phases of NIH submissions or any RPPRs due on or after October 1, 2025.

Call for Paper Submissions for the Journal of Clinical and Translational Science: The Official Journal of ACTS and CR Forum (JCTS)
JCTS is an international peer-reviewed journal that publishes papers capturing the spectrum of research from T1 (translation from research lab bench to bedside) through to T4 (translation to populations). JCTS aims to provide a forum for the rapid communication of relevant topics of interest to the large and diverse community of clinical and translational scientists. For a full description of each manuscript category, as well as information on the submission of manuscripts, journal policy and journal style, please visit the JCTS Instructions for Contributors on Cambridge Core.

Association for Clinical and Translational Science (ACTS) Announces New Fellows of ACTS (FACTS) Program
FACTS is a premier membership program for individuals who have made substantial contributions to and service within the clinical and translational science field. The inaugural cohort of Fellows of ACTS will be announced and recognized at Translational Science 2026 in Milwaukee, WI from April 20-23, 2026. ACTS members are eligible for nomination upon meeting the following criteria:

  • At least 10 years of substantial service in CTS.
  • Membership in good standing in ACTS.

Nominations are currently being accepted as of October 1, 2025.
