Staff Spotlight: Vicky Ortiz Juarez Paz
Vicky is a professor in the Department of Communications Media, where she serves as chair. Since 2013, she has been welcoming students to the university and to the major through COMM 101: Introduction to Communications, Media, and Culture. The main goal of this course is to engage students in thinking critically about the role media has on individuals, culture, and society. Through her involvement on the Graduate Curriculum Committee and the Liberal Studies Committee, Vicky advocates for what is best for students. She is a dedicated researcher in the communications field. Most recently, she cowrote a chapter, “‘You Want to Meet Up? Wait … Where Did You Go?’: Ghosting on Social Media,” in the book Social Media and Close Relationships. She also explored the role of listening in families through her cowritten chapter in the second edition of the textbook Listening across Lives, published by Kendall Hunt. Vicky serves as the advisor to Her Campus, a very active recognized student organization. We thank you, Vicky!
A note about IUP Values Me: Each week, we highlight one student and one staff member to “shine a spotlight” on their leadership and involvement in campus programs and their great work assisting our campus community with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) and/or civil rights awareness.
