Welcome to the PA Business One-Stop Shop (BOSS) newsletter! In this fall edition, you'll find updates on key filing dates, business tips and help guides, small business programs, and more.

BOSS Updates

Updates in the Hub

The Business Hub has added new features to streamline managing your business.

New Hub enhancements include:

Checklist steps that automatically update your business profile.
Profile edits that trigger guidance and an optional amending checklist.
Email and in‑app reminders for tax filings, registrations and profile option to opt-out anytime.

Quarterly Interagency Collaboration Meeting

On June 18, BOSS held a collaboration meeting with DCED, State, Revenue, and Labor & Industry to share updates, coordinate initiatives, and strengthen cross‑agency communication for Pennsylvania’s business community.

Business Tips

How to Obtain or Look Up Your EIN

Apply for an Employee Identification Number (EIN) for free on the IRS website. You can print it immediately, or the IRS will mail it to you, but delivery may take several weeks. If you lose your EIN or the award letter, contact the IRS. Note: Getting an EIN does not register your business with the PA Department of State.

State Government Update

Annual Report

Most PA business entities must file an Annual Report with the Department of State (not required for fictitious names or general partnerships).

Filing windows:

Corporations (domestic and foreign):
Jan. 1 – Jun. 30
LLCs (domestic and foreign):
Jan. 1 – Sept. 30
LPs, LLPs, business trusts, professional associations):
Jan. 1 – Dec. 31

Entities missing reports for three consecutive years will be administratively closed.

Fees: $7 for most entities; free for nonprofits and LPs/LLCs with a not‑for‑profit purpose.

Federal Government Update

U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA)

SBA district offices offer support with funding, counseling, contracting, certifications, and disaster recovery. Eastern PA is served by the Philadelphia SBA Office; western counties by the Pittsburgh SBA Office. Contact your local office for program updates.

Fall Festivals

Apple picking, warm apple cider, and finding that perfect pumpkin are just a few of the items that we associate with fall. But have you ever considered the planning and licensing requirements involved in putting together your favorite fall festival?

For example, did you know that a pumpkin can be taxable unless it is purchased for food, or that certain municipalities and townships may require a business permit or an event license if you are a food vendor at a festival?

If you plan to vend at a festival, contact BOSS for licensing guidance—then enjoy Pennsylvania’s fall season!

Agricultural Business Development Center (ABDC)

The Agricultural Business Development Center (ABDC) supports long-term vitality of Pennsylvania farms through:

Farm Transitions, which links farmers to the next phase of their life and their farm's future.
Beginning Farmers, which offers advice and counsel to the next generation of Pennsylvania producers.
Risk Management information on crop insurance and other risk management options.
Financial Assistance to connect farmers with low-interest loan options and reimbursable grant programs.

ABDC aims to strengthen Pennsylvania agriculture by expanding resources, supporting new farmers, and removing barriers to growth.

PA CareerLink® Business Services Guide

The PA Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) Business Services Guide highlights the comprehensive, no-cost workforce solutions available to help employers meet their workforce and business needs through hiring support, training resources, UC and WC guidance, ADA accommodation help, elevator licensing info, labor market data, and so much more.

Employers can connect through L&I's Business Services Office or visit L&I’s Business Services Office for referrals and assistance.

Kutztown Main Street Community Choice Awards

On June 24, Donald Poligone joined Kutztown’s Community Choice Awards Business Walk, where local businesses received surprise award announcements celebrating their contributions to the community.

Boots to Business

Donald Poligone was also part of the BOSS team’s ongoing support for veteran entrepreneurship on May 27 at Boots to Business, a free two‑day SBA course at Carlisle Barracks offering guidance on business planning, market research, legal structures, financing, and small business resources.
