"Thunky Fing" and the All-Stars

I'm honored to be a part of this particular Global Blues Harmonica Summit.  It takes place on Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18 and will be recorded, so no worries if you're only good for one day.  Ronnie Shellist and I will team up on Saturday; Carlos del Junco and Hank Shreve will hold down Sunday.
Ronnie you surely know.  Carlos is of course the Great and Powerful but infinitely Smooth overblow master.  And Hank is a badass, as this performance surely testifies.  He scares me.
At Ronnie's invitation, I'm going to be teaching what appears to have become my signature piece, "Thunky Fing Rides Again."  It's a funky, bluesy instrumental played in the key of E on a D harp in third position.  The 5 overblow shows up in both sections--and both sections are tricky to play, even for me!  But I'm going to break them down for you, step by step.  Even if you don't quite notch every note, you'll learn something new about cutting edge harmonica circa......1993.  :)  An oldie but a goodie!
(Better get your eyes checked, btw. Because those letters are NOT lavender.)
Here's the link for the virtual workshop.  Register by this Tuesday and it's only $55; after that it's $60.

Just below are two versions of the song.  First, the original "Thunky Fing" the way I played it with Mr. Satan at SPAH back in 1993.  Fast!  Then the slightly slower--and to my ears, somewhat funkier--remake from 2012, featuring a much older Sterling Magee playing very restrained guitar and the inimitable Jerry Jemmott on bass.  (You'll notice a whole lotta liquidity on the harp.  That's a Boss DD-3 digital delay plus....well, I'll talk about that in the workshop.)

That's all for this time.  Back to you soon with a new instructional video and more new of upcoming events!
