Dear Faculty and Staff,
As we enter the final stretch of the semester, we’d like to remind you of the academic support services available to students through the Learning, Writing, and Speaking Centers (LWSC). From course-specific tutoring to writing support and public speaking coaching, our centers offer a variety of resources to help students succeed.
Beyond individual appointments, the Learning Center also provides additional opportunities for students to build their academic skills, including one-on-one coaching, group workshops, and online tools. We encourage you to share these offerings with your students as they prepare for finals and look ahead to the rest of the academic year.
Below, you’ll find more information about our academic skills development study topics, such as active studying, the Study Cycle, creating a study plan, and time management, special finals week hours, along with a spotlight on our Supplemental Instruction (SI) team — all designed to help students finish the semester strong.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting student success.
Warm regards,
LWSC Team

We offer a collection of academic success resources that can help students study more effectively as they gear up for final exams. These resources support students in building strong, sustainable learning routines. Topics include:
|
- Active studying strategies
- The Study Cycle
- Creating a personalized study plan
- Time management and planning study time
|
These tools can help students stay organized, study efficiently, and approach finals with confidence.
|
We want to highlight our Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, which provides peer-led study sessions for high-risk undergraduate introductory courses. SI leaders — students who have successfully completed the course — facilitate weekly collaborative review sessions, help clarify complex concepts, and guide students through effective study strategies specific to the course.
Please encourage students enrolled in SI-supported classes to attend regularly, especially as they prepare for exams and final assessments.

- Economics
- Psychology
|
The Writing and Speaking Centers are not hiring for spring 2026; however, recruitment will reopen for fall 2026. In the meantime, students interested in peer coaching are encouraged to apply for RHET 327 – Speaking/Writing Center Internship, a 1–2 unit course taught by Phil Choong in spring 2026 (Fridays, 4:45–6:30 p.m.). Students enrolled in this course will earn academic credit and receive 16 hours of guaranteed paid work during the semester.
