Dear Colleagues,
It was great to see many of you last week as we celebrated our Texas Parents Staff Merit Award winners. The awards reflect the appreciation parents and families have for the work that is done in the Division of Student Affairs, day in and day out. Congratulations to these outstanding recipients.
After spending 48 years with the Division, taking a detour into retirement, and returning in a different capacity during the past 18 months, I am looking forward to engaging with you as interim vice president. I appreciate President Hartzell’s confidence and support with this appointment, not only for me, but for the overall Division. Let me also thank Soncia for her contributions to the University and wish her the best in her next chapter.
As you can imagine, in the past week I have received a lot of information and feedback. And that will continue in the days ahead — with you. I will be on the ground to hear from you, to listen and to better understand your daily work and how I can best support you as you support our students.
I have so much respect for what the Division does, and what you do every day for all of our students. Whether you work behind the scenes or on the front lines, you are at the core of the student experience.
I look forward to visiting with you soon.
