We write to you today with an important update regarding the previously announced Temporary Operational Control (TOC) model for our colleges. After careful consideration and ongoing assessment of our fiscal situation, we have decided not to implement the Temporary Operational Control model at this time.
Listening to Your Concerns
We want to begin by acknowledging the anxiety and uncertainty that discussions around TOC have caused within our campus community. Your concerns have been heard, your feedback valued, and your dedication to Sacramento State’s mission deeply appreciated. Throughout this process, we have been reminded of the profound commitment our faculty and staff have to our students and to each other.
Reassessing Our Approach
After careful evaluation of our fiscal challenges, we have determined that the TOC model is not the most effective path forward currently. While we continue to face significant budgetary constraints, we believe that our current work on MPP reductions, position control implementation, course offerings, and division zero-based budgeting plans represents a more comprehensive approach to addressing these challenges.
To be clear: We have not yet achieved all necessary cost savings, and difficult decisions still lie ahead. However, we recognize that the TOC model has created considerable anxiety across our campus community, and we believe we can better address our fiscal responsibilities through other means.
