A message from your Ski and Snowboard School Leadership Team

As we head into the Spring Break period, we’re entering one of the most exciting and busiest periods of our season. We’ll be welcoming many new skiers and riders, and for countless guests, this may be their very first time experiencing Beaver Creek. What a privilege it is to share the magic of skiing and riding with them and what we do on the hill every day shapes their relationship with the sport for life.

To bring our best to each lesson, let’s prepare ourselves for success:

• Rest well so you can bring energy and patience to every class
• Stay nourished and hydrated throughout the day
• Wear sunscreen and yes, even when it’s cloudy
• And consider grabbing a pair of spring gloves as the weather warms up

Our professionalism, positivity, and presence make all the difference. A simple encouraging word, a safe learning environment, or a well‑timed high‑five can change someone’s entire perception of skiing and riding. Remember: for every guest, it might be their first turn, their first lesson, or their first mountain moment.

I grew up in the Vail Valley, and this season has been unlike any I’ve seen before. But skiing still fills my cup, grounds me, and brings me joy and I know it does the same for so many of you. That joy is exactly what we pass on to our students every single day.

Let’s keep that passion for skiing and riding alive as we enter our final six weeks. Thank you for everything you bring to our school and our sport.

Brigid Kenny

Senior Manager

Beaver Creek Children’s Ski and Snowboard School

Returner Interest Form

New this season, the Returner Interest Form is a digital tool for all employees to express their interest in coming back to the same role or exploring different roles next season. Returners, formerly known as SIS (Seasonal Inactive Status), are employees who come back to Vail Resorts from season-to-season or year-to-year.

Why it matters: The Returner Interest Form is the starting point for the Returner journey, enabling the smooth transition from ending one season and re-onboarding for another. This reduces errors, improves staffing forecasts, and aligns return decisions with performance—creating a smoother, more consistent seasonal hiring experience.

Indicate your plans to return next season below:

We Heard You!

Thank you for the thoughtful, actionable feedback.  You let us know that the blue banners at the bottom of Spruce were not extended far enough across the run to effectively slow skiers and riders approaching the Grand Traverse, creating a potential hazard for classes heading toward Spruce Saddle.

We brought this to Mountain Safety, and the banners have now been lengthened to improve visibility and provide better speed control—helping keep everyone safer.

Great catch on this one. As pros, you see what’s happening on the hill every day, and your perspective is invaluable. Please keep the feedback coming!

Where Teaching and Technology Find Their Edge

Melissa Marotto, PSIA-AASI Examiner

Lead Trainer and Instructor, Beaver Creek Ski & Snowboard School

As instructors we felt the change in pace when Vail Resorts rolled out Lesson Connect across Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone, and Vail Ski & Snowboard Schools. It was an ambitious lift for one winter. It might take more than a bull wheel lap to fully grasp it. Now, mid-season, we’re seeing how it effectively pairs with what we perform on snow.

For the first time at scale, parents, guardians, and adult participants can access a clear skills summary before they leave the base area. Lesson Connect is more than a reporting tool. It syncs what we teach during the lesson with what families understand at pickup. When we record the skills addressed that day, guests see tangible progress tied to defined outcomes instead of a vague “they did great” or “they’re still working on it.” This improves the guest experience and our experience.

Ski school has always been generational. Many of us work alongside instructors with decades of experience. At the same time, guests see new faces in uniform every winter. Even strong instructors can face skepticism at pickup. Trust is not automatic. The app helps bridge that gap.

When our debrief mirrors the skills summary, something clicks. Referencing the same language guests see in their hands makes the recap focused and skill based. More data informed, less subjective. Instead of searching for the right words, we rely on the skills list as structured talking points. This is especially powerful for newer instructors still building confidence in assessment and communication.

For the seasoned pros who already know which skills to target, and build trust the moment they greet guests, using the app adds one more layer of professionalism. Turns out even legends can tip their skis into Ski and Snowboard School 2.0. Great instructors have always adapted to changing conditions. This turn of tech is simply another way to show what you already do so well.

For new pros, especially those who grew up using technology as a learning tool, lean into it. Lesson Connect supports your role as a professional. It gives language to your assessment and visible structure to your commitment to progress.

At times, using the app can feel like it creates distance at the start of the day. In reality, it handles communication we once managed verbally. We still do what matters most. We teach, assess, and adapt. We build confidence for guests on snow.

Lesson Connect does not detract from that. It documents it. And when families see the skills we selected, the app reinforces the decisions we make every day to keep students safe, having fun, and learning.

Happy Spring- It's that time of year again!

Ski and Snowboard School Food Bank is OPEN

Beginning Friday, March 6, the food bank will be available downstairs. Instructors may pick up food items at Checkout.
