Long time St. Luker, Cindy Brough, passed away on December 5, 2020. Cindy was a staff member here at St. Luke’s for many years working at the School of the Arts as well as a faithful volunteer with many ministries including the cancer support group, Wednesday night dinners, and Sunday Usher. Cindy’s easy-going, welcoming, and gracious spirit made everyone feel like family. When you were in her presence, she treated you like family and you felt loved. Cindy was a great cook and she enjoyed preparing and delivering meals to many families in their time of need. She is the daughter of Dave Risher, wife of Frank, mother of Alex and Matthew, and it was her great joy to become a grandmother to Jack in 2019. She will truly be missed. A private memorial service was held on December 18, 2020. The family asks that memorial gifts be made in Cindy’s honor to the Leiomyosarcoma Research Fund https://nlmsf.org. Please keep her family in your prayers.
Long-time St. Luker, Doug Rhyne, passed away on December 21, 2020, at the age of 75. Doug grew up here in Orlando and was very involved in sports from an early age.
After graduating from Rollins College, he was a leader at Walt Disney World, Wet and Wild, and Westgate resorts. Doug and his wife Carol were married for 47 years and he was a loving father to his daughter Christin and son Jeff and an older brother to Don. Doug was a proud grandfather to Rylee and Connor. He was a faithful church member and served for many years as an usher in contemporary worship. His witty outlook on life will be missed by all. A private memorial service was held on Saturday, January 9 at the church. To view his memorial service, please go to https://vimeo.com/497326620/4a796e0f01. Memorial gifts may be made in Doug’s honor to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. Please keep his family in your prayers.

Milestones

Congratulations to St. Lukers Julie Hayes Evans, daughter of Jim and Mary Hayes, and Alain Boniec on their recent engagement.

Gleaning in Florida
In 2020 through November, the Society of St. Andrew’s Florida region gleaned 10,392,449 pounds of fresh produce in 596 events, with 2,899 volunteers.
This fresh and healthy produce was donated by 95 farmers and has been distributed to people experiencing food insecurity through 178 feeding agencies and organizations including St. Luke’s.
Thank you so much to all the St. Luker’s who made a difference gleaning this year!
ZOE Graduations in 2020
Above, the Abakoranabushake “Committed” Empowerment Group, Nyamagana, Rwanda, has sent St. Luke’s UMC its greetings upon their graduation from the Zoe Empowers three-year empowerment program in June of 2020. Click here to read their kind letter and learn more about the group.
Winter Wonderland in CDC
The Child Development Center is learning about winter as best as children in Florida can do! Making snow in a science experiment is a fun way to learn about the properties of cold vs. hot, light vs. heavy, and soft vs. hard.
Painting melted snowmen adds a little humor!
A science experiment about blubber and its protection against the cold was a big hit in the Polar Animals unit.
The Child Development Center will begin registration for the next school year on February 5th for Alumni and Church families. Look for registration information on the website at www.st.lukes.org/cdc or call the school at 407-876-1155.
